BDS Suspension’s 2012 SEMA Show Booth

Without a doubt one of the pinnacle events within the automotive aftermarket industry is the SEMA Show. This annual event hosted by SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) brings tens of thousands out to Las Vegas, NV for a week long barrage of automotive overload to the senses. Whether you’re into lifting or lowering, off-road racing or show stopping looks, high performance, lighting, audio, wheels or tires, SEMA has something to peak your interest. From debuting the latest products to inspiring future trends in the market, the SEMA Show is the place to see what’s going on in this industry. The 4 day show brings together manufacturers, media, and other industry professionals all centered around the Las Vegas Convention Center as over aftermarket companies showcase their company’s newest products. BDS Suspension will be there once again this year, teaming up with other divisions of Sport Truck USA Inc in our usual spot, Booth #30192 along the left wall of the south hall, upper level at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The 80×25′ spot will be filled with some of the latest products and vehicles as we welcome everyone to stop by, meet the crew, check out the rides grab a beer and enjoy the show. We’ll have Fusion Bumper’s gorgeous 2013 Ram 3500 in the booth along with Project KJ, our 2013 Ultimate Adventure rig.

Along with our booth vehicles, we will also have dozens of vehicles strategically displayed throughout the show in manufacturers’ booths and on display in featured vehicles spots. Stop by our booth for a list of vehicles on display this year.

BDSgrayThe buildup continues as the crew from BDS’s R&D Department tears into our new 2013 Ram 3500 Cummins to turn it into something cool. This truck has been our test mule over the last few months as we prototype new lift kits for work with the redesigned front radius arm suspension. With SEMA right around the corner we’ve installed a pre-production version of the 8” 4-link conversion long arm kit. There are a number of benefits to the radius arm-to-4Link long arm conversion including better handling characteristics and a less caster change throughout wheel travel.

Additionally on this build we’ve called in some favors with friends around the industry to help turn this truck into something cool. You may have read last week’s update where we received the 40×15.50×20 Nitto Mud Grapplers, 20×10 BMF Novakanes, Diamond Eye Exhaust, and front/rear Fusion Bumpers. This week we received the Spyder Auto smoked projection H/L and LED T/L, N-Fab Steps, and Extang tonneau cover.

The goal for this truck is to build a great looking, not over the top show truck that is still capable as a daily driver and tow rig. Stay tuned for more as this truck goes under the knife to get prepped for the 2013 SEMA Show. The time has come, after several years of proud service, a few catalog covers, and envy from thousands of truck owners, BDS is preparing to sell the BDS Dodge, our 2010 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins Diesel Truck on 40s. The plan, to replace it with the latest release from Ram Trucks, a 2013 Ram 3500 Cummins with the new radius arm front suspension. We picked ours up a few months back and have been using it as a test mule for a variety of new products to hit the market. With SEMA right around the corner the plan is to turn our new truck into a show worthy hauler, acting as both tow rig for our rigs and displays as well as a show piece in its own right. We’ve called in some favors with friends around the industry and are excited to announce the buildup of BDS Project Slate. Our 2013 Ram 3500 will be outfitted with a number of cool parts to get it ready for the show to include a pre-production 8” BDS lift kit, custom set of Fusion Bumpers, 40×15.50×20 Nitto Mud Grapplers, 20×10 BMF Novakanes, Rigid LED Lighting, Spyder Auto Projection H/L and LED T/L, N-Fab Steps, Diamond Eye exhaust, Extang Tonneau Cover, custom graphics and a few other odds and ends. If ever an eclectic group of 4wheelers was assembled, the Ultimate Adventure (UA) would be it. Racers, rock bouncers, shop owners, and a pair of Canadians were among those chosen to take on this year’s 1500-mile, 8-day, 4-state 4wheeling fest in the Dirty South.

The annual trip gathers roughly 25 rigs for a weeklong 4wheeling road trip around some corner of the country. No trailers allowed on the UA, everyone must carry their own food, spare parts, camping gear, etc

Orchestrated by Petersen’s 4Wheel & Off-Road Magazine’s editor-in-chief Rick Pewe, a diverse group of rigs and personalities is assembled ultimately bringing together 6 readers, 12 sponsors, magazine staffers and a film crew for a weeklong off road adventure. Some might say its like herding cats, but the ultimate adventure is just that, each day riddled with wheeling, wrenching, and driving and camping.  This year was particularly challenging as we took on the heat and the “wet” terrain for of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina.

We made the trip out this year in our freshly built and at time temperamental 2005  Jeep Liberty CRD dubbed Project KJ. After a mad dash to the start point, the KJ broken in the right way, getting bashed on rocks, submerged in swamps, and barreling down the highway from location to location. The trip is growling to say the least, from long road days to challenging trails, break downs were common on this year’s trip. From broken axles, blown engine, transmissions, and driveshafts to roll overs, over heating, and plenty of body damage. We had our fair share of breakdowns along the way which included some faulty factory electrical, broken driveline, ring gear bolt that walked its way out and punch a hole in the diff cover and ripped open the ARB air line, electric fan that crapped out, and ultimate a fried ECU that took us out on the last day of the event. Despite the challenges we had a blast on the trip. The Ultimate Adventure is an event we look forward to doing again soon, heck, maybe next year.

2013 Ford F250/F350 Lift Kits

Coldwater, MI—April 2, 2013—BDS Suspension is now shipping suspension lifts for the 2013 Ford F250/F350 Super Duty trucks. Available in 1″, 2″, 4″, 6″, and 8″ lift heights, these new kits are designed to improve the performance, functionality, and curb appeal of your late model Ford while retaining the handling characteristics owners have come to expect.

The 1″ and 2″ leveling kits utilize a pair of machined 6061 aluminum lower coil spacers to retain the factory ride quality and handling characteristics while allowing for 33″ tires to be installed. BDS-5500 and Fox 2.0 performance shocks are available to upgrade the factory units.

4″ and 6″ lift kits are available to clear 35-37″ tires, respectively. Diesel/gas engine specific Pro-Ride coil springs offer the correct spring rate for improved ride quality and proper lift height. These kits utilize a pair of 1/4″ thick drop brackets to reposition the stock radius arms for stock-like handling characteristics. A heavy duty track bar bracket recenters the front axle and mimics the new steering angles created by the forged pitman arm to eliminate bump steer issues seen with other kits. Also included is sway bar relocation, brake line extensions, bump stop extensions, new steering stabilizer mount, front and rear shocks, and your choice of rear block kit or replacement Glide-Ride leaf springs.

Stepping up the standard 4″ and 6″ lift kits, BDS Suspension offers 4-link conversion kits to improve the handling and on/off-road performance. The 4-link design improves ground clearance while reducing caster change to less than 1 degree throughout wheel travel. Heavy duty 4-link brackets and massive 2″ x .250 wall DOM tubular upper and lower greaseable control arms are included. These systems also integrate Pro-Ride coils, steering correction, sway bar relocation, brake line extension, your choice of available shocks and multiple rear lift options to level the stance.

Using the popular 4-link design, BDS offers the 8″ suspension lift kit able to clear 38″ tires and give you a new perspective on or off the road. The system includes longer upper and lower DOM tubular control arms, diesel/gas engine specific 8″ Pro-Ride coil springs, forged pitman arm, heavy duty track bar relocation bracket, bump stop extension, sway bar relocation, brake line extension, steering stabilizer mount, rear Glide-Ride leaf springs, and multiple front/rear shock mounting options.

The guys from BDS Suspension have their bags packed and are ready to embark on the 25 hour road trip from Coldwater, MI to Moab, UT for the 2013 Easter Jeep Safari. This event, the 47th annual gathering, is hosted by the Red Rock 4Wheelers Club and welcomes thousands of Jeeps and other off-road vehicles to the tiny town of Moab for a week of 4wheeling. This event continues to grow each year and boasts hundreds of aftermarket companies, media member, celebrities, and even support from the Mopar division of Jeep who debuts a number of project vehicles. The event runs Saturday March 23rd through Sunday March 31st with numerous trail rides that range from scenic cruises to down right  treacherous. In addition to wheeling, Thursday and Friday serve as a chance for the participants to stop by the Spanish Arena just outside of town for the Vendor Expo to meet vendors, ask questions, and take advantage of great show specials.

BDS Suspension will be in town all week long doing trail rides, hanging out around town, and displaying at the vendor expo.
