King of the Hammers 2012 is a wrap, and BDS Rep Jason Shellhaas made it back from the west coast with plenty of stories to tell… “Well another King of the Hammers (KOH) has come and gone, and with it, a new champion has been crowned. Congrats to Eric Miller on bringing home the crown this year. 2012 marked the 6th running of KOH out in the Johnson Valley SRVA, and BDS Suspension’s first trip out to the lakebed to witness the spectacle first hand. Over the years since its inception, this event has exploded in popularity as big budget builds and backyard creations compete head-to-head on a growling course of wide open desert racing and extreme rock crawling. The event that started just a few short years ago and took the off-road racing industry by storm is in full swing out in Johnson Valley, CA. Over the past week the desolate lakebed has been transformed into Hammertown as 50,000+ set up camp for this new class of endurance racing. King of the Hammers brings together high speed desert racing with extreme rock crawling as teams compete for the coveted crown and bragging right for the coming year. Competition is intense with a mix of corporately sponsored teams and professional driver’s out on the course. Murphy’s Law is in effect, but the BDS sponsored race team of Desert Concepts found a way through it. After a nightmare of a week prepping the competition rig and support vehicles, the IFS buggy is mechanically prepped with the body and graphics getting fitted later today before making the short journey out into the desert for King of the Hammers (KOH). Competition starts Friday morning as the competition rigs take to the course to crown this year’s king. Make sure to cheer on JT Stephens and Bryan Grigsby in car #4454. The 2012 King of the Hammers is just days away… The event that started the revolution in off-road racing starts this Friday, February 3, with a week long of racing activities in Johnson Valley, CA. Hammertown is the destination as tens of thousands head into the desert to hang out and watch Jeeps, trucks, UTVs, and motos compete in classes throughout the week leading up to the main event on Friday, February 10, as the KOH prepped buggies compete in a mix of high speed desert and hardcore rock crawling to be crowned the King of the Hammers.
