Hammertown is the place to be this week as the King of the Hammers (KOH) rolls into Johnson Valley, California. While Hammertown may not appear on your Google maps, during this week it comes alive with thousands of racers and spectators converging in the Mojave Desert for an amazing spectacle of off-road entertainment. From UTV races to the KOH prepped buggies, this event has grown exponentially since its start 5 years ago into a truly amazing week of racing, vendors show, seminars and more. Click here for a full schedule of events.
For those that aren’t familiar with the King of the Hammers racing it is a mix of high speed desert racing and rockcrawling that is nothing short of incredible. The event has a mix of UTV races and last chance qualifiers (LCQ) at the beginning of the week, leading up to Friday when the top 100 qualifiers race to be crowned King of the Hammers. BDS Suspension is sponsoring Larry Gipson Racing out of Seattle, WA in their Tacoma-bodied buggy. Starting in 18th position, both Larry Gipson and Bart Dixon will be sharing the duties behind the wheel of the buggy as they take on the 100+ mile course at ridiculous speeds over the desert and up challenging trails in the shortest time possible. Make sure to check back for a recap of the action and results from the event. There are some new rules this year to help ensure the safety of spectators as well as racers. Check out this link for more info. The event runs Sunday Feb. 6th – Saturday Feb. 12th with the main event on Friday. Here’s a promo video for the 2010 KOH, with this year’s event growing even bigger!

Well we survived the so-called “Blizzard of 2011” up here in Coldwater, MI. While we did get plenty of snow and windy conditions, the results of the storm made for some nice snow wheeling. We had a new 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 in the R&D Shop for test fitment of the BDS 6” Lift Kit and couldn’t pass on the opportunity to test out the 4WD capabilities once the traction control was turned off. Check out the video and others posted on You Tube.
The Outdoor Channel has 19 new shows to start off 2011. Among them is Off-Road Overhaul, part of the new Motorsports Mondays. The new show that debuts Monday, January 24th, 2011 at 9:30pm (ET) will feature an off-road vehicle in need of some work. Vehicles will be getting some extra altitude from BDS Suspension along with other customizations. Here’s the premise of the show:
Every great outdoor adventurer needs a great truck to get them to action. Watch as a team of professional mechanics overhaul 4×4 trucks and Jeeps to transform them into high-performance, off-road masterpieces. The crew also takes the owner out for an exciting inaugural adventure in their newly tricked-out ride.
BDS Suspension has teamed up with Ben Lifted 4WD, Mickey Thompson, Warn, and Iron Cross Automotive to help out the Villalobos Rescue Center with the move to their new location in the Tehachapi Mountains of California. The Villalobos Rescue Center, which is largely known for the show “Pit Bulls and Parolees” on the Animal Planet, has made improvements and has expanded into its new space. While the increased space was much needed, they’ve found it does come with some drawbacks. The terrain makes it difficult for the day to day operations as the vehicles kept getting stuck in the mud and snow. Their work vehicles consist of a ’93 Jeep Wrangler 4×4, a ’94 Chevy Tahoe 4×4, and a ’98 Dodge Ram 2500 4×4. With the help of BDS Distributor Ben Lifted 4WD providing all the installs, Tia and the crew at the Villalobos Rescue Center will be much more capable around their new facility. BDS Suspension is providing the lift kits, Mickey Thompson- the wheels and tires, Warn- the winches, and Iron Cross- the Bumpers. A much needed upgrade to a very deserving organization rescuing dogs and helping provide them with a better life, love and attention. Stay tuned for photos of the finished trucks and the dogs!
Vegas baby! Las Vegas is the site of the SEMA Show; once again bringing together over 2000 companies for the largest automotive show in the world. Automotive manufacturers as well as aftermarket companies worldwide make the trip each year to this oasis in the Mojave Desert. The Las Vegas Convention Center and surrounding grounds will play host to this show boasting anything and everything automotive related. While this show isn’t open to the general public, the amount of press coverage this show receives gives everyone an up close view of what SEMA is all about. SEMA is always the place to showcase new products and it has routinely given us a glimpse into the future of the industry. BDS Suspension will be among the companies making the long haul to Las Vegas for the November 2-5 show. This event provides an opportunity to meet with current and potential distributors, as well as network with other professionals. BDS Suspension will be well represented with a number of companies interested in our premium lift kits for SEMA show rigs. We’ll have more coverage of these trucks in the near feature.
BDS Suspension is teaming up with its sister company Zone Offroad Products in our 10ft x 100ft booth modeled after an off road shop complete with sales counters, lift kits on displays, waiting room, and install garage. Wall displays will showcase new lift kits for the Jeep TJ / JK Wranglers, the 2011 Chevy HD trucks, Dodge trucks, new Ford F150 / F250 trucks, and the Toyota Tundra. We’ve included some shots of components of the booth, but we don’t want to give away everything yet, so you’ll have to check back to see the full details. Keep a look out for updates during the show and a full recap complete with media blitz after the show.
