SEMA Trucks: Street 2 Sand’s RAM 3500

Each year the SEMA Show is flooded with amazing automobiles, lifted trucks, lower street rods, resto-mod classics and late model monsters all in the name of automotive customization. There’s something for everyone’s taste from the insanely built and over-the-top to capable daily drivers. BDS Suspension attends this annual show out in Las Vegas and continues to make quite the statement with show vehicles scattered throughout the show grounds on display in exhibitor booths and featured vehicle spots.

If you’ve been around the SEMA Show in recent years, you’ll know Randy Pratt’s shop Street 2 Sand Off-Road & Performance. Each year they have their hands in a number of builds with their eye for unique styling and attention to detail. 2013 was no different with vehicles spread throughout the show in booths and on display in featured spots. Heck, even the 2013 Ram 3500 we had in the BDS booth was built by his shop.

When it comes to Randy’s daily driver, he’s been on a Cummins kick lately. His 2012 Ram 3500 is a 6.7L workhorse sporting both off-the-shelf parts and one-off components built in-house with the S2S’s fabrication and CNC machining equipment. Gracing the pages of an upcoming Truckin’ Magazine issue, this truck grabs attention everywhere it goes with no part left untouched. Up front a Fusion bumper was installed for a clean flush appearance that houses a variety of Rigid LED lights. The stock headlights were swapped to a colormatched projection unit and house even more Rigid LEDs. In place of the traditional Ram grill is a BMF unit and functional SRT10 ram air hood to hint at the performance mods beneath. Playing off the truck’s body lines, the factory white paint color was transformed to a custom 2-tone scheme along with a skull themed airbrush and blue pin striping. To dial in the stance, Randy chose the BDS 8” long arm kit that he modified to 10” and ran with BDS dual shock hoops, Fox 2.0s and a dual steering stabilizer all colormatched to fit the theme. Sending power to the axles are a pair of lengthened one-piece driveshafts. Gears were swapped out for a set of 4.56s and billet S2S diff covers were installed front and rear. For wheels and tires, 38×13.50×24 Nitto Trail Grapplers fit the build and were mounted up on 24×10.5 BMF M80 wheels, once again getting extra attention with painted inserts. Up top a 50” Rigid lightbar provides even more long range visibility roof mounted using Street 2 Sand’s low profile brackets. Out back the truck sports BDS leaf springs, blocks, and Fox shocks. The bed was Line-X’ed and features a CargoGlide CG2000XL sliding rack and an Extang tonneau cover. The rear bumper came from Fusion as well and features Rigid D2 lights along with custom badging built machined in house and a pair of Recon LED taillights.

The interior of this truck features equal attention to the exterior with S2S embroidered black leather seats, suede headliner, colormatched interior panels and S2S custom control panel to mount the assortment of switches. Sound comes from a complete JL Audio system to get the party going wherever and whenever Randy shows up. Under the hood the stock 6.7L Cummins has no trouble rolling the 38s and features an H&S Mini Maxx tuner, S&B intake, 50HP injectors, ARP head studs, Air Dog 200 fuel system, billet valve cover and Diamond Eye exhaust system. In place of the stock tranny an ATS Stage4 68RFE was installed and is mated to the stock t-case with the help of BDS’s indexing ring kit. For long trips a 60-gallon fuel tank was installed to improve the trucks range for all the events that Randy attends. BDS 4″ 4-Link Lift Kit & Accessories

2013 Dodge Ram 1-ton 4WD

Coldwater, MI—December 30, 2013— BDS suspension continues to lead the industry with new and innovative products for late model RAM trucks. In addition to their existing lift and leveling kit options, BDS is excited to announce the release of a 4″ 4-link conversion kit to dramatically improve the ride quality and performance of late model 2013+ RAM 3500 4WD trucks equipped with factory front radius arms and rear leaf springs.

As with the widely popular BDS 4-link conversion for ’05-14 Ford Super Duty trucks, this kit converts the factory radius arm suspension to a true 4-link for increased stability, wheel travel, and improved handling across all terrains. The 4-link design limits caster change to less than 1-degree of change throughout wheel travel for better handling, steering control, and overall driveability. The heart of the system are a pair of massive frame-mounted brackets precision welded and engineered to locate the new upper and lower control arms to create the optimal suspension geometry for late model RAM trucks. The 4-link brackets are fabricated from 1/4″ thick steel and wrap around the frame as well as the factory radius arm brackets to create an extremely sturdy mount for the new arms. Removal of the factory radius arm brackets is not required allow the brackets to stay intact to speed up the installation time.

The upper and lower control arms are built from 2″ OD x 3/16″ wall DOM tubing for the strength to take any abuse you can throw at them. They utilize large 2.5″ OD polyurethane bushings to isolate road vibrations and are formed inward to allow for extra tire clearance while repositioning the front axle slightly forward for increase tire clearance to the backside of the front fenders when turned. These arms are finished in a durable textured black powder coating and use grease fittings for easy servicing.

In addition to the 4-link conversion, the kit includes everything needed to properly lift the new 2013 Ram 3500 trucks and clear up to 37″ tires. The additional height comes from a pair of specially designed progressive rate ProRide coil springs. The coils have been engineered and tested to improve the ride quality and performance across all terrains while holding up to the rigors that 1-ton truck owners demand. Due to the unique factory coil mount design on the new radius arm equipped trucks, BDS has developed left and right side-specific coils to improve performance and eliminate coil bowing. Also up front, a heavy duty fabricated front track bar bracket to recenter the front axle as well as a forged drop pitman arm and black e-coated brake line relocation hardware are included to reposition all steering and brake components.

In the rear, a 2″ tapered block kit is used along with black e-coated u-bolts to level the stance and allow for up to 37″ tires. Your choice of vehicle specific BDS-5500 hydraulic or Fox 2.0 performance gas shocks are used at all 4 corners to improve dampening performance on the late model 2013 Ram 1-Tons.

Available Accessories

BDS has a number of accessories available to fit the new 2013 RAM 3500 trucks. Both single and dual steering stabilizer kit are available to meet your on-road and off-road performance needs. Available in both 5500-series (white body) and 9500-series (brushed stainless body) the stabilizers improve drivability by reducing front end shimmy caused by oversized tires and mount above the tie-rod for extra protection when offroad. The dual stabilizer kits mount end-to-end with an attractive BDS branded center bracket. In addition to steering stabilizers, BDS offers a heavy duty adjustable front track bar to allow you to dial in the front axle positioning. Constructed from 1-3/8″ solid steel stock this new adjustable track bar is built to handle on and off-road abuse and uses a 1-3/8″-12 fine threaded pinch bolt design turnbuckle to allow easy tuning to properly recenter the front axle for a range of lift heights. The track bar is formed for proper clearance around critical front end components and features gusseted ends for additional rigidity. The ends utilize high-durometer polyurethane bushings with thick-walled steel sleeves for strength and reliability. Lastly, BDS offers rear traction bar kits to fit the 2013 Ram 3500 trucks. Designed to eliminate axle wrap and keep the rear axle planted during hard acceleration, BDS traction bars are constructed from 1-1/4″ OD tubing and are 100% bolt-on.

As with all BDS products these are backed by the comprehensive Factory Protection Plus Plan. For more info on this new 4″ 4-link lift kit and available accessories, visit BDS Suspension or call (517) 279-2135.

BDS Long Arm Kits now with Forged Flex Ends

1997-2006 Jeep Wrangler TJ

Coldwater, MI—December 16, 2013—  BDS Suspension has just released new long arm suspension options for the 1997-2006 Jeep Wrangler TJ. After years of development, (2) 4WOR Ultimate Adventures survived, and numerous on-road/off-road durability tests the engineers at BDS Suspension have put their stamp of approval on these new TJ Long Arm Kits. Designed around the popular BDS 4-Link long arm subframe, these kits now feature front and rear heavy wall upper and lower longer control arms with rubber bushings and forged flex ends for impressive articulation offroad and great on-road mannerisms. The front long arm improves suspension geometry by minimizing castor change throughout wheel travel for unparalleled handling characteristics for the best dual purpose on/off-road performance. The rear suspension mounts now feature vertical separation between upper and lower frame mounts to improve anti-squat characteristics. The new subframe design will accept the stock belly pan (some trimming required) as well as work with BDS’s belly up skidplate (#124045) for increased strength and ground clearance.

The new lower control arms (LCA) are constructed from 1.75″ diameter .250 wall tubular steel and formed inboard to provide better clearance for oversized tires. Ends are fully welded and feature a durometer specific Clevite rubber bushing to mount towards the axle for smooth, quiet performance and improved bushing lifespan. For customers interested in polyurethane bushings, these new arms will accept BDS’s dual fluted greaseable polyurethane bushings (available separately LCA#074120/UCA#074121).

Opposite the rubber bushings these new upper and lower control arms utilize the BDS forged flex ends for superior strength, easy adjustability, and increased articulation. These flex ends use forged steel construction and single-sided snap ring design with steel ball and polyurethane races to allow up to 30 degrees of misalignment. Housings are finished in a durable black e-coated and come fully assembled with jam nut and grease fitting. The large flex ends feature a 1-1/4″-12 threaded 4″ long shank for plenty of adjustability without sacrificing thread engagement. Smaller flex ends are used for upper control arms and use 1″-14 x 3-1/2″ long threaded shank. The long arm assembly can be adjusted to accommodate 4.5-8.5” of lift making it a great option for those that plan to dial in their ride height regardless of size.

The new BDS long arm kit with forged flex ends is available as a long arm upgrade for current lifted Jeeps as well as offered in a complete 4.5″ long arm and 6.5″ long arm kit. 4.5″ and 6.5″ long arm kits include Proride coil springs matched with your choice of 5500-series or Fox 2.0 performance shocks for optimal ride quality. Rear shock mount relocation brackets are included to improve shock positioning once lifted. DOT approved Kevlar lined stainless steel extended brake lines are included to compensate for the extra height and keep from maxing out during articulation. Steering correction comes from a forged drop pitman arm and adjustable front track bar with relocation mount to improve drivability limit bump steer, and recenter the front axle. The rear uses a track bar bracket to recenter the rear axle. Extended bump stops are included for all 4 corners as well as rear sway bar links. The front utilizes ultimate sway bar disconnects for a quick and easy solution to increasing articulation offroad while maintaining on-road mannerisms with the links connected. The spring loaded collar retains the ball & socket joint for one-handed operation and clip up out of the way when you’re out on the trail. To allow extra clearance for steering components, the front axle sway bar mount is removed and BDS high clearance mounting brackets are installed. All these components come together for a top quality suspension lift able to perform not only off-road but on the highway.

Available accessories for the BDS TJ long arm kits include single and dual steering stabilizers, rear adjustable track bar, belly up heavy duty skidplate, LCA skids, and the steering box skidplate.

Matt Parker’s not afraid of a challenge. He frequents Carnage Canyon and other spots around Colorado with his ’98 ZJ. The Jeep has more than a few things done to it with a spec sheet to include a BDS long arm kit (Olympus coilovers for 9” of lift), a bored and stroked AMC360, built 1-ton axles, and 39” TSLs. Matt’s got a soft spot for building ZJs as this Jeep came about out of the ruins of his last ZJ which met it’s demise after a 80mph head on collision. After rolling 3 times Matt walked away without injury, his Jeep on the other hand, didn’t fair so well. Matt took the BDS long arm kit and whatever else he could salvage and began building this new ZJ into the beast that it is today. The salvaged BDS 6.5” long arm was one of the first parts to be installed as he transformed this unsuspecting Jeep into what it is today. Work by week and wheeling by the weekend Matt’s not afraid to put this former luxury Jeep into some perilous situations.

During a recent Monster Jam in his home state of Colorado, Matt took on an Acura in front of a crowd of thousands. He launched at the ZJ from the side popping a nice wheelie for the crowd before landing on the roof and driving over. During the maneuver Matt snapped one of the BDS lower control arms, but he was able to complete the maneuver. The arm was welded up to help Matt get out of the arena under his own power. Matt said “The (BDS) kit has survived an 80mph head-on impact and a 3-time rollover. The fact that its held up to the abuse I put it through absolutely blows my mind.” After a call into BDS he had a new control arm on the way.  A true testament to the BDS No Fine Print Warranty.
