What a year at SEMA… Record numbers, tons of new interest and a killer presence around the show, without a doubt one of our best years yet! This year marked our 5th year exhibiting at the SEMA looking back its amazing to see how far we’ve come since the company was founded 18 years ago. This year we teamed up with the other divisions of Sport Truck USA Inc (Zone Offroad Products, JKS Manufacturing, and Posi-Lok) to showcase new products and make some big announcements. The 25×80 booth space was transformed into a bar setting as we welcomed industry professionals, current dealers, and the media in for an ice cold beer and a casual conversation. We debuted a killer 2013 Ram 3500 sporting the BDS 8” 4-Link Conversion as well as the Project KJ, our Ultimate Adventure tested ’05 Liberty CRD. Needless to say, the booth went over well, the beer was drank, and it became the daily hangout of many from around the industry.

But the show isn’t just about a cool booth and free beer. This year the crew from BDS debuted a number of cool parts like the radius arm and 4-Link conversion kits for the  new 2013 Ram 3500 and 2014 Ram 2500 trucks, showcased new products for Ford, Chevy, and Dodge trucks and announced the Factory Protection Plus Program, a comprehensive package that includes the BDS No Fine Print Warranty, FMVSS No.126  ESC System testing, and 5year-60,000mile drivetrain coverage. There was quite a buzz going around the show with the announcements as many stopped by hang out in the booth and hear more about new products and upcoming projects.

Around the show BDS worked with a number of show builders to showcase products on a number of show trucks. Companies like Ford, Fusion Bumpers, Spyder Auto, American Force, Boondock Bumpers, Diamond Eye Performance, Dee Zee, and Iron Cross Automotive showcased BDS equipped vehicles in their booths as well as dozens of other companies who repped BDS on their featured vehicles around the show. BDS’s Project Slate was on display outside as a featured vehicle showing off a number of cool products as well as taking on towing duties to and from the show. All in all nearly 60 BDS-equipped trucks and Jeeps were on display for this year’s show helping gain exposure at the event as well as at various photoshoot following the show.

Simply put, we had a blast out at SEMA. Without a doubt our best year yet and thank you to everyone, our dealers, new customers, media members, and friends from around the industry for coming by our booth and helping make the 2013 SEMA Show an amazing event. We’re excited for the future and looking forward to a stellar 2014!

Over the last decade, there has been a decline in the automotive aftermarket. Often chalked up to the larger economic recession, the automotive aftermarket and off-road industry in specific have been on a roller coaster ride with a mix of corporate outcomes that have ranged from refocused business plans, changing market shares, and bankruptcy for an unfortunate few. BDS Suspension has braved the economic storm and come out stronger than ever with more confidence in its core beliefs of quality products, great customer service, guaranteed parts in stock, and an unmatched warranty.

Annually the industry converges on Las Vegas, NV each November for the SEMA Show. SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) is a good marker for the industry as new trends emerge and companies show off their latest and greatest. Attendance from both exhibitors and buyers has been an indicator of the economic climate as poor attendance numbers and less than capacity filled exhibit halls plagued the show during the last decade. Over the last 3-4 years, however, there’s been a turn. Attendance has been improving, new companies are exhibiting, and the international presence has grown exponentially. “A trade show is a reflection of the industry it serves,” Chris Kersting, SEMA President and CEO, said in a statement. “The unprecedented participation levels this year indicate the industry is moving into growth mode. This was a record-breaking year and we’re seeing companies ready and eager to do business.” Attendance this year has grown to nearly 2,400 exhibiting companies and over 125,000 registered for the 4-day show, a 7% spike from last year. This increase is reflected in the SEMA Annual Market Report that estimates over $31 billion in 2012 aftermarket retail sales up from $28 billion in prior years.

This year marked BDS Suspension’s 5th year exhibiting at the annual industry trade show. While the company has been in business for 18 years, 2009 was BDS’s first year exhibiting at SEMA. In the 5 years the company has attended this annual industry event they’ve seen exponential growth as the company continues to gain a hold of the truck and Jeep suspension industry. Evidenced by their ever expanding SEMA presence, BDS Suspension’s booth has grown from a 20×20′ spot in 2009 to the 25×80′ plot in the South Hall, along the north wall of the upper level that has been their home for the past few years. Around the show exposure has grown from a single vehicle on display to well over 50-BDS equipped trucks and Jeeps being showcased around exhibit halls and on display in featured vehicle spots. Needless to say the company has been growing over the past few years and is excited to for the coming year as they continue to lead the market with innovative new products and a sound business plan. Mark your calendars, the 2014 SEMA Show is slated for November 4-7, 2014.

It was a mad rush to finish up Project Slate. All the little details always seem to take longer than expected and with 3 straight days of rain we can’t exactly say the weather is cooperating. The truck hit the road first thing this morning with trailer in tow as the first group makes their way to sin city for the 2013 SEMA Show. Check out the video and stay tuned for more next week during the show!

Well Project Slate our 2013 Ram 3500 hit the road for its first shake down run this morning before heading in for fresh graphics and a spray-in bedliner. While there are still a number of things to get installed on this truck (i.e. grill, steps, wiring up compressors and lights), we have a fast approaching deadline to hit the road for Vegas and we had a window to get graphics installed. Stay tuned for more updates in the coming days and to see the progress up to this point, check out the build thread at https://blog.bds-suspension.com/?cat=478

The time has come, after several years of proud service, a few catalog covers, and envy from thousands of truck owners, BDS is preparing to sell the BDS Dodge, our 2010 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins Diesel Truck on 40s. The plan, to replace it with the latest release from Ram Trucks, a 2013 Ram 3500 Cummins with the new radius arm front suspension. We picked ours up a few months back and have been using it as a test mule for a variety of new products to hit the market. With SEMA right around the corner the plan is to turn our new truck into a show worthy hauler, acting as both tow rig for our rigs and displays as well as a show piece in its own right. We’ve called in some favors with friends around the industry and are excited to announce the buildup of BDS Project Slate. Our 2013 Ram 3500 will be outfitted with a number of cool parts to get it ready for the show to include a pre-production 8” BDS lift kit, custom set of Fusion Bumpers, 40×15.50×20 Nitto Mud Grapplers, 20×10 BMF Novakanes, Rigid LED Lighting, Spyder Auto Projection H/L and LED T/L, N-Fab Steps, Diamond Eye exhaust, Extang Tonneau Cover, custom graphics and a few other odds and ends. A special thanks to KEG Media for the killer rendering of our latest project truck.

The goal for this truck is to build a great looking, not over the top show truck that is still capable as a daily driver and tow rig. Stay tuned for more as this truck goes under the knife to get prepped for the 2013 SEMA Show.BDS’s Project Slate’s first video build update. Check out the progress on our SEMA-bound tow-n-show rig…
