2017 King of the Hammers Coverage

What a week out in the Johnson Valley, CA. KNow as teh toughest oneday race in the world, the King of the Hammers continues to grow each year as companies, competitors and spectators take over the desolate dry lakebed of for a week of racing action. From UTVs and motos, Jeeps, Toyotas and tube buggies there’s a draw for anyone into offroading as hundreds of competitors take to the course to prove they can finish the most grueling one-day offroad race in the world. This year’s main class, the 4400-class had over 120+ competitors fighting for the crown along with multiple classes (4500, 4600, 4800, etc) in the Everyman Challenge along with UTV classes and moto races. Now in its 11th year boasted hundreds of competitors racing in multiple classes and nearly 50,000 spectators out on the lakebed town known as Hammertown. The week is filled with events and competitions, vendor show, and qualifying all leading up to the main races. With over 160-miles of rocks and open desert in for the 4400class  and shorter distances for the others, King of the Hammers was truly become the ultimate test of man (or woman) and machine. Congrats to Shannon Campbell and the Campbell Racing family for bringing home the crown this year once again! If was a hard faught battle by all of the competitors.

BDS was out for this year’s action, getting photos and vidoes from qualifying and races along with helping support the #4502 car of Tilden Motorsports. Despite running into some mechanical issues with axle shafts and a locker during the race the team fought to fix the rig and complete the race. They gave it their all, and were just a few miles from the finish line as time expired for the race. Be sure to keep an eye out for the full race report from Tilden Motorsports.
