If you follow BDS you've likely seen us talking about Project RangerX in the past, This 2019 Ford Ranger was one that we build up in 5 short weeks back in 2018 to debut in Ford's Booth for the 2018 SEMA Show. You can learn all about this build, the specs and how it came together by clicking here.

If you're still reading this rather than taking a hard left into the build history the most recent adventure for RangerX was a Fall color tour around our home state of Michigan. After a quick once over in Michigan this truck made it up to the Silver Lake Sand Dunes to tackle the terrain. From there, we headed up to the Tunnel of Trees, over the Mackinac Bridge, and into the UP (Upper Peninsula) for some trail riding.

RangerX provides a comfortable and quiet ride when on road, and a performance-based experience when off road. We enjoyed having this rig along for the trip and we look forward to the next adventure we get to have with it. For more on this most recent [Off] Road-Trip Adventure click here.

Over the last 18 months since we first got our hands on the 2019 Ranger we’ve been featured center stage at Ford’s booth at SEMA and made top 40 in SEMA’s Battle of the Builders competition. We’ve taken on the Overland Adventure, Moab trail rides, driven cross country numerous times and made it out to dozens of shows, races and dealer visits along the way. It’s been on the cover of Four Wheeler Magazine and still to this day is the only crew cab, long bed late model Ranger in existence (that we’re aware of). It’s the one and only Project Ranger X.

Stepping back to when we first got our hands on this truck, one of the first preproduction Rangers Ford build specifically for us to turn the project truck you see today…. Built up and ready for an adventure. With just 5 short weeks, the BDS build team took one of the first 2019 Ford Rangers in existence and overhauled it into a show stopper. Built for capability out on the trail, great looks with a strong stance, and plenty of utility with room to haul gear BDS's Project Ranger X elevates the Ranger to the next level. Starting with a pre-production 2019 Ranger right off the assembly line, this truck was torn down, the frame was extended, service bed and custom rack fitted, a BDS suspension lift installed and larger tires and accessories were added. We documented the build in a 5-part build series that followed the team as they transform

Four Wheeler Features Project Ranger X

Anybody that knows offroad knows Four Wheeler Magazine. Its one of the largest, longest running, offroad focused publications in existence keeping up on events, trends and industry news. The staff got wind of the BDS 2019 Ford Ranger project build (Project Ranger X)  for Ford’s Booth at SEMA and immediately showed interest this, the newest version of Ford’s midsize pickup offering full outfitted into a utilitarian motorsports themed adventure rig before most had ever laid eyes on the new truck. After checking out the truck at the show Four Wheeler wanted more and set up a time after the show to shoot a full feature on it. Earlier this week that feature story went live on FourWheeler.com giving everyone the inside scoop on Project Ranger X, the truck they affectionately refer to as a mullet. Check out the feature online at (Four Wheeler – BDS’s 2019 Ford Ranger) and keep an eye out for it in an upcoming print issue of the Four Wheeler.

Each year thousands of the top automotive customizers converge on the SEMA Show to showcase their latest creations. The show is a mix of late model and classic rides; some lifted, some lowered; from radical hotrod to purpose built race vehicles; bro dozers to rice rockets. Of those thousands of vehicles only a few hundred enter the ultimate builder showdown known as the Battle of the Builders. This competition pits the best builders and the most unique builds again one another where only one can take home the top honor.

Throughout the show the competitors are narrowed down to the top 100 builds, then top 40, then top 12 voted on a handful of industry professionals. For 2018 Battle of the Builders the BDS team entered the build, the 2019 Ford Ranger dubbed Project Ranger X. While the truck didn’t make the top 12, it did make it to the Top 40 Builds of the 2018 SEMA Show. Me sure to set your DVRs or tun in to watch the SEMA Battle of the Builders TV show to find out who took home top honors. The show premiers on the MotorTrend Network on January 7, 2019 at 10:00PM.

With the build announcement made public right before SEMA there were a number of news sites and media outlets that jumped on 2019 Ford Ranger press release. Several outlets shared the build renderings, backstory to the builds and created even more buzz for these revival of the midsize truck back in North American just a few short months away. Among them was BDS’s Project Ranger X, a motorsports themed utilitarian truck capable offroad and ready for an adventure.
