MX4 Edition Ford Ranger

In the world of classic Ford Broncos, Maxlider Bros has earned a reputation for creating award-winning restomods by bringing together late-model innovation with classic styling. Several of their Bronco builds fetch 6-figure price tags as demand grows for classic Broncos following Ford's announcement to revive the Bronco nameplate. So where does their business model go from here? There's only so many classic Broncos around and parts are becoming scarce. The answer lies in the popularity of lifting late-model trucks. Starting with the 2019 Ford Ranger and expanding out to other platforms, Maxlider has brought their eye for design and build expertise together to design, develop and outfit some of the coolest Ford Rangers around. What's more, they've partnered with dealerships around the country to offer these highly "upfitted" Rangers direct to consumer or through your local dealership backed by a factory warranty. Dubbed the MX4 Edition and available in an assortment of colors, these trucks come out swinging with the appearance and performance capability locked down. Every detail of these trucks has been addressed from their strong, beefy stance and larger tires to custom features with the grille, rack, badging, and more. This truck turns heads.

Starting up front, a Maxlider developed a custom mesh grille for unique styling with branding and additional lighting. From there, a custom low profile Razerrack roof rack is added along with an apocalypse-ready row of eight, extra-bright, Rigid XL LED cube lights. A set of high gloss running board steps are added for easier access. For suspension, Maxlider turned to BDS for a fully-build suspension package to not only lift ride height, but ultimately offer next-level comfort and offroad performance. The MX4 Ranger is fitted with a complete BDS 6" lift system that includes FOX 2.5" Factory Race Series remote reservoir coilovers up front and upper control arms. FOX 2.0 Performance Series IFP gas shocks are mounted in the rear. This suspension package offers increased strength, better dampening control, and more off-road capability with plenty of clearance for the included 35" BFG KM3 tires on 18x9 custom MX4 edition wheels.

Inside the cab, the interior is kept mostly original for a clean, modern appearance. The leather upholstery features custom-embroidered headrests. Each build has a unique badge to show that you are truly part of an elite club. Under the hood, the factory 2.8L EcoBoost has a few bolt-on accessories, exhaust, and a custom tune to give the Ranger MX4 an impressive 332 horsepower and 427FtLbs of torque. 2" Leveling Kit: Specially designed for the new Ranger, this 2" leveling kit is engineered for additional tire clearance and improved performance without overextending the suspension or driveline angles at full suspension droop (as is the case with other top mounted spacers and taller leveling kits on the market). The issue with most other kits is they increase the overall length of the strut assembly maxing out ball joints and causing the CV shaft/boot to operate at an extreme angle leading to premature wear/failure of the components. To get around this apparent issue the BDS kit uses a 2-piece design with a smaller top mounted steel strut spacer in combination with a preload spacer. The top mounted spacer installs easily and is finished in a durable black e-coating for a clean appearance. The preload spacer installs below the spring and raises the ride height without extending the overall extended length of the strut assembly while maintaining factory ride quality allowing you to get the most out of your new Ranger's factory suspension.

2.5" Lift System : This new system builds off the factory suspension mounting points and offers improved strength, ground clearance and suspension travel. All components have been engineered in unison to ensure suspension and drivetrain geometry is maintained, rather than other " leveling kits" on the market that just throw in a top spacer which maxes out the angles at droop. The new ride height is the result of a combination of a specially designed top mounted steel fabricated strut spacer in conjunction with a preload spacer for a total 2.5" of front lift. The reason for the combination is to achieve the correct ride height without increasing the overall extended length of the strut assembly too the point of causing premature wear of the CV axle boots and other front end components. To further ensure proper drivetrain geometry the front differential is repositioned using relocation brackets. These brackets correct CV axle angle while allowing the use of the factory front skid plates. In the rear the factory shocks are replaced with your choice of precision tuned NX2 gas or FOX 2.0 performance IFP gas shocks for improved damping.

3.5" Lift System : This new system builds off the factory mounting points and offers improved strength, ground clearance and suspension travel. The new ride height is the result of a combination top mounted steel fabricated strut spacer along with preload spacer for a total 3.5" of front lift. The reason for the combination is to achieve the correct ride height without increasing the overall extended length of the strut assembly too the point of causing premature wear of the CV axles and other front end components. Also supplied for the front end are a pair of performance upper control arms (UCAs) designed for improved strength and suspension travel. Built from thick wall 1.5" DOM tubing, these UCAs utilize an indexed ball joint cup to reposition the upper ball joints and allowing more droop travel. These arms come fully assembled right out of the box with high quality greaseable Moog ball joints and Clevite rubber bushings for long life, quiet operation and superior corrosion resistance over uniballs and heims. They are a direct bolt-in replacement for the factory strut assemblies and improve damper performance featuring a 2.0" extruded and machined 6061 T6 aluminum body for better heat dispersion, along with an internal floating piston (IFP) to eliminate oil aeration, FOX's proprietary internals, 5/8" hard chrome plated heat treated alloy shaft all preloaded with coil springs ready for easy installation.This kit takes perfomrance for the next level by upgrading to FOX 2.0 performance series. This new 6" lift system joins the current 2.5" and 3.5" BDS lift options bringing you on road comfort, off-road capability and clearance for up to 35" tires. While some companies build "kits" to fit larger tires, BDS Suspension prides itself in engineering complete suspension systems designed to take your vehicle's performance to the next level while retaining OE-level functionality. Case in point the (NHTSA) National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's FMVSS No.126 compliance standards requiring any aftermarket modification to not adversely effect the vehicle's electronic stability control (ESC) system performance in the event of an evasive maneuver. Coldwater, MI: BDS Suspension is now offering 4" High Clearance Lift Systems for the late model 2019-2020 Ford F150 Raptor trucks. Designed to take full advantage of the Raptor’s FOX LiveValve front coilovers and rear shocks, this new systems improve ground clearance with clearance for 37" tires while maintaining ride quality and handling characteristics.

There are several similarities between the Ford Raptor and standard F150 chassis allowing BDS to integrate several of the existing FMVSS No.126 (ESC system) compliant F150 kit components into this new Raptor system. Up front this 4" system utilizes a pair of 1/4" thick one-piece laser cut steel high clearance crossmembers to reposition the SVT lower control arm along with a multipoint differential relocation system and heavy duty differential skid plate. This creates a solid subframe and gives additional offroad protection whether you are charging through the open desert of out on a backcountry trail. A pair of CNC-machined ductile iron steering knuckles are supplied to reposition front tie rod mounts and integrate with the factory control arms. For these newer LiveValve-equipped Raptors lower strut extensions are supplied to provide the 4" lift. These allow additional suspension clearance are allow use of the FOX LiveValve shock package. Also included are sway bar relocation brackets to maintain correct operating angles, alignment cam bolts, a billet aluminum front driveshaft spacer, brake line brackets to allow adequate slack at full suspension droop, and new front skid mounting brackets to reposition the signature Raptor front aluminum skid plate.

Out back BDS supplies a 5" block and u-bolt kit replace the factory block and level the stance of the Raptor along with a 4" rear block option for a lower "prerunner" stance. The rear blocks include a bump stop wing for proper bump stop engagement offroad. Also supplied are a pair of axle mounted shock extension brackets to work with the Raptor's LiveValve FOX piggyback shocks. As with all BDS suspension lifts, this new Ford Raptor 4" lift kit is backed by Factory Protection Plus giving you the confidence to use it and abuse it out on the trail. Over the last 18 months since we first got our hands on the 2019 Ranger we’ve been featured center stage at Ford’s booth at SEMA and made top 40 in SEMA’s Battle of the Builders competition. We’ve taken on the Overland Adventure, Moab trail rides, driven cross country numerous times and made it out to dozens of shows, races and dealer visits along the way. It’s been on the cover of Four Wheeler Magazine and still to this day is the only crew cab, long bed late model Ranger in existence (that we’re aware of). It’s the one and only Project Ranger X.

Stepping back to when we first got our hands on this truck, one of the first preproduction Rangers Ford build specifically for us to turn the project truck you see today…. Built up and ready for an adventure. With just 5 short weeks, the BDS build team took one of the first 2019 Ford Rangers in existence and overhauled it into a show stopper. Built for capability out on the trail, great looks with a strong stance, and plenty of utility with room to haul gear BDS's Project Ranger X elevates the Ranger to the next level. Starting with a pre-production 2019 Ranger right off the assembly line, this truck was torn down, the frame was extended, service bed and custom rack fitted, a BDS suspension lift installed and larger tires and accessories were added. Coldwater, MI: BDS Suspension is now offering 2.5" radius arm lift systems for the 2020 Ford Super Duty. Available with full length ProRide coil springs or FOX 2.5 factory series remote reservoir coilovers, these 2.5" radius arm systems are designed to improve the stance of your Super Duty while taking performance, capability and ride quality to the next level with clearance for 35" tires. The coilovers option offers vastly superior damping capability to soak up the harshest terrains offroad while offering comfort for your daily commute. They feature a smooth bore and honed seamless alloy body, 7/8" hardened stainless steel shaft, black anodized machined 6061-T6 billet aluminum mounts and remote reservoir and come fully assembled with FOX coil springs. These coilovers are pretuned for optimal performance and preset for 2.5" of lift right out of the box with the weight of the 6.7L Powerstroke diesel engine. They install easily using the supplied bolt-on frame and axle mounting brackets.

In place of the factory stamped steel arms this kit upgrades to heavy duty BDS radius arms. These brawny arms are built from 1-3/4" OD heavy wall tubing, fully welded with gussets for superior strength to the factory units light weight stamped steel units they are replacing. The heavy wall tubular construction improves strength while correcting caster with a lower cam slot. At the frame mount a large OE-style rubber bushing is used to better isolate of NHVs and allow for quiet operation without any need for maintenance. These bushings offer superior durability and quieter operation than arms with heims and flex joints. Also upgraded as part of these new 2.5" lift systems is a high strength replacement track bar designed to recenter the front axle with the lift installed. This new track bar is adjustable, built from 1-3/8" solid steel stock with gusseted ends and a fine thread center turnbuckle with pinch bolts. The track bar comes pre-assembled and ready to bolt into the factory location to adjust to length. At one end these use a greaseable, high-durometer polyurethane bushing and the other end a heavy duty ball joint. This setup offer strength, comfort and quiet operation over track bars that use heims. Rounding out the front of these kits are front brake line relocation brackets to allow enough slack in the lines to cycle the suspension offroad while the sway bar relocation brackets to correct sway bar operating angle for optimal performance without sacrificing approach angle.

In the rear, these kits use a slightly taller 4" replacement lift block and new black e-coated u-bolts to net a level stance without the need to stack blocks to do it. The block integrates a bump stop wing to correctly limit suspension up travel and allow you to retain the factory rear springs to maintain tow capacity. Finishing out the rear are a pair of NX2 or FOX 2.0 performance series gas shocks to compliment the front performance. Coldwater, MI: BDS Suspension adds new 3.5" coilover lift systems designed to take advantage of the stout factory front suspension design on the 2019 Ford Ranger. At the heart of these 3.5" coilover systems are a pair of specially tuned FOX 2.0 performance series coilovers. These non-reservoir coilovers are preset for the correct lift height right out of the box and use a threaded body to allow preload adjustment. They are a direct bolt-in replacement for the factory strut assemblies and improve damper performance featuring a 2.0" extruded and machined 6061 T6 aluminum body for better heat dispersion, along with an internal floating piston (IFP) to eliminate oil aeration, FOX’s proprietary internals, 5/8" hard chrome plated heat treated alloy shaft all preloaded with coil springs ready for easy installation.This kit takes performance for the next level by upgrading to FOX 2.0 performance series. Also supplied for the front end are a pair of performance upper control arms (UCAs) designed for improved strength and suspension travel. Built from thick wall 1.5" DOM tubing, these UCAs utilize an indexed ball joint cup to reposition the upper ball joints and allowing more droop travel. These arms come fully assembled right out of the box with high quality greaseable ball joints and rubber bushings for long life, quiet operation and superior corrosion resistance over uniballs and heims. Finishing out the front of these 3.5" systems are fully fabricated differential relocation brackets to correct CV axle operating angles.

In the rear of these lift systems the factory leaf springs are retained and 1” lift comes from a heavy duty replacement shackle. These shackles are built from high strength 3/8" steel and have the benefit of leveling the stance, correcting rear pinion angle and allowing for increased rear suspension travel. Also supplied for the rear of these 3.5” lift kits are a pair of FOX 2.0 IFP performance series gas shocks to match the front performance. All kits come finished in a durable black e-coat finish and sent with all hardware packs to complete the install along with step-by-step installation instructions.
