2011-2015 Chevy/GMC 2500HD 4WD 4.5″ Lift Kits

Coldwater, MI—January 12, 2015— BDS Suspension expands its suspension offerings with new 4.5″ high clearance no torsion bar drop suspension systems for the 2011-2015 Chevy/GMC 2500HD 4WD trucks. Much like the larger 6.5″ systems currently offered these new 4.5″ lift kits are designed to maximize ground clearance, improve offroad capability and and perform flawlessly on the highway at a more modest lift height able to clear 35″ tires.

The 4.5″ lift system is designed to integrate flawlessly with the new electronic stability control (ESC) systems. Up front the kit utilizes a pair of one-piece 1/4″ steel high clearance crossmembers, differential relocation brackets, heavy duty differential skid plate, support brace, and front BDS-branded skid plate to create a sturdy subframe and improved offroad protection. A pair of CNC-machined ductile iron steering knuckles dwarf the factory units and position off the stock upper arm and relocated lower arm mounts without increasing track width. To further increase the ground clearance over other kits this 4.5″ system tucks the torsion bars up tight to the chassis using a pair of torsion bar relocation brackets that key off the factory lower A-arm. This design maximizes break over ground clearance to keep you from getting high centered offroad as well as gives a clean streamline appearance. Extended DOT compliant braided stainless steel brake lines are supplied to all full suspension travel, longer links to allow the sway bar to function properly and your choice of BDS 5500 or Fox 2.0 gas shocks at all 4 corners.

Out back the kit is offered with 2″ or 3″ rear block and u-bolt kits to achieve your designed stance. As with all BDS suspension systems this new 4.5″ high clearance lift kit is backed by the Factory Protection Plus Program offering BDS’s exclusive no fine print warranty and a 5-year 60,000 mile drivetrain warranty free of charge.

I’m interested in your: NEW PRODUCT RELEASE #193: 2011-15 CHEVY/GMC 2500HD 4.5? LIFT KIT for a 2015 GMC 3500HD dually i’m going to be purchasing soon. The press release says the lift is for a 2500HD, is it safe to assume it’ll be appropriate for a 3500HD dually truck?

Steve

Hey Steve, thanks for your interest. The kit is designed for 2500HD/3500HD SRW trucks. The kit will fit on your ’15 GM 3500HD Dually except for the rear u-bolts. They require a larger radius u-bolt that we don’t offer so that would need to be made or sourced elsewhere. For other questions on this kit feel free to reach out to out sales/tech team at (517) 279-2135

Hey Steve,
The new 4.5” lift kit will fit on the 3500HD-SRW and 3500HD-DRW as well. One note, the kit does not allow the reinstallation of factory dually wheels due to clearance issues. For more on the topic contact our sales/tech team at (517) 279-2135

I’ve been looking at this kit for my 2011 GMC Duramax I was wondering what kind of wheel options I would have what size wheel and backspacing does the kit require ?

Hey Brade,
We spec this kit to fit 35×12.50 tires on 17×8/18×8/20×8 wheels with 4.625” backspacing. That being said we’ve had customers wider wheels, however there is the potential for the tires to rub when turned full lock which may require fender trimming. Hey guys,
Just got my 2015 Chevy 2500 diesel
2wd crew cab standard bed
I’m interested in your 4.5″ lift
And running 35″ open country mts
Just curious if that set up would fit in a regular 7′ garage I know it would be close thanks -Brian

Hey Brian,
overall truck height measurements are not one we take when building the kits and would vary due to things like roof racks, lights, true tire size. A good way to estimate the height would be to measure the over all height of the truck now + 4.5” for the lift + 1/2 the difference in tire height (i.e. 31” tires to 35” tires will net 2” of addition height of the truck)

Hello, does this kit allow the use of the standard 18″ rims that come with the 3500 hd Denali swd? I’d like to reuse factory rims and just put larger tires. 35×12.5×18 tires

Hey Joseph,
I’m a bit confused by your post the 2500HD/3500HD aren’t offered with Magneride, only the 1500 models. Our 4.5” and 6.5” kits are designed to work on both the “standard suspension” and “offroad suspension” packages offered by GMC. While aftermarket 17” and 18” wheels can be installed due to their smaller backspacing, your stock 18” wheels will not fit back on with the kit installed due to clearance issues to the suspension. For more on this kit head to http://bds-suspension.com/kit-customizer?kid=719H and if you have other questions the sales/tech team is available to assist you at (517) 279-2135.

Will this lift kit work with the factory 20″ five star wheels on a 2015 2500 4×4? I see that the 17&18 factory wheels don’t. Just curious about the 20s. Thanks

Hey Josh, you are correct the stock 17” (and 18”) wheels won’t work with our lift kit due to clearance issues. Stock 20” wheels will work as long as you stick to 35×12.50 tires, larger tires will likely rub the steering knuckles due to the large backspacing of the factory wheels.

is there a way to use factory wheel for winter tires (we have winter there….) with a spacer to clear the back spacing , and how much spacer will I need?

Hey David, the factory 20s can be reused with the lift installed with up to 35” tires. The stock 17s and 18s would require wheel spacers to achieve a 4.5 to 4.625” backspacing for clearance

I have a 3500 HD Silverado with just four wheels left for the half inch lift kit work good and what size tires you think I can put on her

Hey Scott, this kit will fit the 2500HD, the 3500HD SRW (single rear wheel), and the 3500HD DRW (dual rear wheel) trucks as they all share the same chassis and suspension design. We recommend installing 35×12.50 tires with 17×9, 18×9, or 20×9 wheels with 4.5-4.625″ backspacing. For more on this kit and recommended specs head to our website at http://bds-suspension.com/product?kid=719H

I have a 2011 Chevy LTZ 2500. I am interested in this lift. Can I still haul my 42′ fifth wheel if I put this lift on my truck?
Thank you for the help.

Hey Tanner,
This 4.5″ high clearance system is a great option for anyone looking to fit 35″ tires and still use their trucks. We towed cross country with that setup as do many of our customers. Our 4.5″ kit uses either a 2″ or 3″ lift block so the spring rate on your rear leaf springs won’t change for towing. Ultimately if your trailer can accommodate the extra 4-5″ height to hook up to your truck (2-3″ for lift + 2″ for tires), then you’ll be good to go.

I have a 2015 Duramax LTZ 4wd. Could I install the 4.5” lift in the front of my truck and back off the torsion bars a bit and use it as a leveling kit? ( I have about 3 1/4” of rake). Also would the stock 20” 5 spokes work? I have 305/55/20 tires.

Hey Chad, we don’t recommend unloading the torsion bars on the 4.5″ lift as everything else in that kit is designed to correct the suspension, steering and driveline geometry for 4.5″ of lift. We offer multiple rear lift block options to level the stance and allow room for up to 35″ tire to be installed. The 4.5″ kit allows the factory 20×8.5 wheels to be reinstalled with up for 35×12.50 tires. In the 2-3″ lift range we do offer a coilover conversion that replaces the torsion bars and converts over to heavy duty UCA/LCA and FOX 2.5 DSC coilovers. Check out our website for more info.

Hi everyone I pull a fifth wheel camper was wanting to go with this lift with 35s will I have any trouble with height I don’t want to do any mods to camper any help would be appreciated

Hi Jason, thanks for your interest in BDS Suspension. Ultimately your question will depend on your particular trailer. Our 4.5″ lift kit will use either a 2″ or 3″ rear block kit and allow fitment of 35″ tires. The hitch mount on your truck will be around 3-5″ higher than it is now (2-3″ for the lift, 1-2″ for the difference in tire size). If your trailer can accommodate the mounting point 3-5″ higher than it is now then you’ll be fine.

Hi just to be clear, I have a 2015 2500HD Denali. I’m currently running 35 12.50 20 tires on factory 20 Denali OEM wheels. With this kit can I keep my current wheel/tire combo?

Hey Matt, I believe this topic came up with your reach out out to us on social media as well. In a nutshell, since the initial launch of these kits we’ve had more opportunity to test factory wheel setups and get feedback from customers on fitment. Ultimately our recommendations come from our engineering/tech support team based on what they’ve found what fits and what doesn’t. To be on the safe side tech support has updated the “recommendation” to say stock 20s from the 2015-2017 model year trucks cannot be reinstalled unless used with a wheel spacer to achieve our recommended 4.5-6″ backspacing. For more on the topic I’d recommend contacting our tech support dept directly at (517) 279-2135 or by email at tech-bds@ridefox.com
