BDS Suspension has approved their 5.5” lift systems and accessories for use on the 2019 Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon trucks, both gas and diesel equipped. Available kits include the #722H standard 5.5" IFS lift kit, the #722F 5.5" performance coilover system and the #722FDSC 5.5" DSC coilover system. These BDS 5.5" IFS systems for the 2015-2019 Colorado/Canyon are designed around the tried and true high clearance design and offer rugged, capable performance while maintain the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No.126 to not adversely effect the vehicles factory installed electronic stability control system with the lift installed. That combined with BDS's No Fine Print Warranty and a 5-year 100,000-mile drivetrain warranty give you the peace of mind wherever and however you use and abuse your truck.

5.5" IFS Systems: These systems feature a pair of heavy duty 1/4" steel high clearance crossmembers to reposition the lower control arms and work in unison with the massive ductile cast iron extended steering knuckles to gain 5.5" of lift. The crossmembers utilize the factory geometry eccentrics and allowing compatibility with both gas and diesel applications. These crossmembers are tied to together with a full-width skid plate offering added protection for vital front end parts while also creating a rigid subframe. The front differential is relocated down to keep CV axle angles at a minimum and function properly with the supplied transfer case indexing ring. This updated transfer case indexing ring works with both transmissions and improved front driveline angle to allow use of the factory front driveshaft. The factory front struts are retained and a top mounted strut spacer is supplied to to provide additional ride height while maintaining ride quality and speeding up installation. Front bump stop extensions and sway bar links are included as well as Moog tie rod ends to properly set alignment without trimming the inner tie rods. Out back, a 4" block and u-bolt kit is supplied to level the stance. BDS offers both the NX2 gas or FOX 2.0 performance gas shocks specifically tuned to maximize the performance of your Colorado/Canyon in any terrain. This kit allows clearance of 33" tires.

5.5" Coilover System: Building on the standard 5.5" IFS System these 5.5" performance coilover systems raise the bar offering vastly improved performance and capability. In place of the top-mounted strut spacers these systems utilize FOX 2.5 factory series remote reservoir coilovers. These coilovers offer far superior dampening for impressive capability to soak up the harshest terrains offroad while offering comfort on your daily commute. They feature a smooth bore and honed seamless alloy body, 7/8" hardened stainless steel shaft, FOX coil springs, black anodized machined 6061-T6 billet aluminum mounts and remote reservoir. The coilovers come fully assembled, preset for 5.5" of lift right out of the box. Out back a pair of specially tuned FOX 2.0 series IFP gas shocks are supplied to compliment the front coilovers and improve your Colorado/Canyon's performance on and offroad.

5.5" DSC Coilover System: Stepping up the game to another notch, these DSC coilover systems build off the 722F kit adding FOX 2.5 remote reservoir coilovers featuring DSC adjustment technology. DSC (Dual Speed Compression) adjustments allows you to dial in your suspension's performance for any terrain. These coilovers feature a smooth bore and honed seamless alloy body, 7/8" hardened stainless steel shaft, FOX coil springs, black anodized machined 6061-T6 billet aluminum mounts and remote reservoir with DSC adjustment technology. The DSC adjustment allows for easy tuning of the vehicle’s suspension compression dampening to dial in the ideal ride performance to soak up the bumps, both large and small. The DSC has 12 adjustment points for the high-speed compression as well as 10 adjustment points for the low-speed compression allowing you to make large or small changes to further improve your performance for your particular needs. Adjustments can be made by simply twisting the "blue" high speed and "gold" low speed compression knobs located on the end of the remote reservoir of the FOX 2.5 coilovers. No tools or shop adjustments needed, allowing you to tune the suspension out on the trail. The coilovers come fully assembled, preset for 5.5" of lift right out of the box.

If you're looking to up the ante and build your new 2019 Colorado/Canyon into a beast out on the trail and on the highway, look no further than BDS with updated 5.5" suspension systems with available FOX coilovers.

Anyone who is a fan in recent years of motorsports will know the name Drive Line Magazine. They’ve taken a fresh approach to covering the automotive scene with editorial, tech, and event coverage spanning across multiple media platforms from digital, social, video and print. Recently they ran an install and review that dug into the tech behind the BDS 2-3″ Coilover Conversion System for the 2011-2019 Chevy/GMC 2500HD trucks.

The owner of the vehicle in the video did not particularly like the nose-down rake that the truck comes with. A basic leveling kit was not satisfying their desire for a smooth ride while being level. This is when they looked to BDS Suspension.

BDS Suspension offers a 2-3″ Coilover Conversion system that does just what this owner was looking for. In order to get the result that the owner wanted, the torsion bar suspension had to be removed and replaced with the 2-3″ Coilover Conversion. This Coilover Conversion used FOX factory series 2.5 coilvoers with remote DSC (dual speed compression) adjustment to offer adjustable damping for the best possible ride quality on and off-road. In order to keep the truck as level as possible, the owner decided to keep the springs the way they are from the factory and switched over to the FOX 2.0 Series shocks.  The video walks through the set up and proves why going with the coilover is a significant upgrade over the torsion bar setup.

Full Product Announcement:

A few months back BDS Suspension introduced the 6.5" coilover conversion high clearance systems, the latest performance option for the 2011-2017 Chevy Silverado HD and GMC Sierra/Denali HD trucks giving next level of performance and comfort to truck owners. These systems allows HD owners the ability to eliminate the rough riding traditional torsion bar suspension in favor of FOX 2.5 factory series remote DSC coilovers and combines them with the tried and true BDS high clearance IFS systems to truely unmatched performance on and offroad. For trucks already equipped with the non-coilover BDS 4.5" and 6.5" High Clearance Systems BDS is now offering an upgrade kit with all the components needed to convert over to the 6.5" coilover setup.

At the heart of this upgrade is a pair of FOX 2.5 Factory Series Coilover with remote DSC reservoir. These coilovers offer vastly superior dampening for impressive capability to soak up the harshest terrains offroad while offering comfort on your daily commute. These FOX coilovers feature a smooth bore and honed seamless alloy body, 7/8" hardened stainless steel shaft, FOX coil springs, black anodized machined 6061-T6 billet aluminum mounts and FOX’s DSC (dual speed compression) adjustment technology. The DSC adjustment allows for easy adjustment of the vehicle’s suspension compression dampening to dial in the ideal ride performance to soak up the bumps, both large and small. The DSC has 12 adjustment points for the high speed compression as well as 10 adjustment points for the low speed compression allowing you to make large or small changes to further improve your performance. Adjustments can be made by simply twisting the "blue" high speed and "gold" low speed compression knobs located on the end of the remote reservoir of the FOX 2.5 coilovers. No tools or shop adjustments needed, allowing you to tune the suspension out on the trail. The coilovers come fully assembled, preset for 6.5" of lift for optimal wheel travel. To mount the coilovers BDS supplies a bolt-on bracket that installs on the frame in the shock mount location. A weld-in support gusset is used to reinforce the upper mount, however still allows the kit to be completely reversible if the owner ever chooses to revert back to the torsion bar style suspension and upgrade the suspension on another truck.

In addition to replacing the factory torsion bars, the upper and lower control arms are upgraded to improved strength, travel, and accommodate the new coilovers. The uppers are the new performance upper control arms designed specifically for this system to integrate with the 2.5 coilovers. The arms are fabricated from large 1.5" OD x .120-wall chromoly tubing, fully TIG welded for the highest quality, strength and durability. The arms utilize premium Moog brand ball joints and factory style rubber bushings for smooth, quiet operation and superior durability when compared to arms with uni-balls, poly bushings or heims. The ball joint cups are repositioned for optimal performance allowing a 30% improvement in wheel travel. These upper control arms are finished in a durable black powdercoat and include a billet aluminum ball joint dust cap. The control arms come fully assembled for easy install right out of the box. To compliment the uppers, the new lower control arms are built from high strength steel, fully boxed with internally gusseted. These lower arms integrate new reinforced lower coilover mounts and similar to the uppers use durometer specific rubber bushings at the frame mount and high quality Moog ball joints at the knuckle mount for quiet, low maintenance operation.

Project Raider vs Bundy Hill Offroad Park

Over the last couple months BDS’s Project Raider has grown up. This 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500HD Duramax started out as the test mule for development and product testing for the BDS 2.5″ coilover conversion system (torsion bar delete kit). With development and testing complete the truck was built up to debut the new system at the 2015 SEMA Show. That build up consisted of a modified N-Fab front bumper, nerf steps and a custom built rear bumper. 35″ Nitto Exo Grapplers were mounted on 20″ Fuel Hostage IIIs to improve the stance along with a T-Rex mesh grille, Bushwacker fender flares, Zroadz LED lighting and an Extang tonneau covers. Performance add-ons included an AFe cold air intake and Bully Dog programmer. Finishing off the truck was a custom “adventure edition” vehicle wrap.

After spending the past year pulling tow rig duties for BDS, attending events and making dealer stops from coast to coast, hitting trails and playing at the sand dunes it was time for this truck to go back under the knife for something bigger and badder. What the BDS R&D team came up with was a 6.5″ coilover conversion high clearance system, taking all the benefits of the tried and true high clearance IFS system, now with the torsion bar deleting FOX 2.5 DSC coilover conversion with high strength upper and lower control arms.

Initially Project Raider 2.0 was set up on a set of 37×12.50 M-16s on 20×9 Fuel Hostage IIIs which looked undersized for how the truck was set up with bumper and fender mods. From there the truck went to 38×13.50 Nitto Trails on 20×10 Fuel Vapors that gave it a strong stance and comfortable amount of clearance. These days the HD is running a set of 40×15.50 NittoTrail Grapplers on the 20×10 Fuel Vapors, which with the additional fender modifications do fit for on-road and mild off-road use. Check out the video of it in action out on the trails at Bundy Hill Offroad Park in Jerome, MI pretending it was a Jeep navigating the obstacles, rock garden and throwing mud in some epic drifts.
