Another King of the Hammers is in the books and the guys from BDS are back home shaking the dust off, going on with stories of the and camaraderie and competition out in the lake bed.  Mike Maloney and Jason Shellhaas headed out to Johnson Valley for the week long competition and came back with this to say: …this event continues to expand and draw in larger crowds than ever before. The weather was all over the map and as motos, quads, Jeep, trucks, and buggies took to the terrain to be crowned the new King. In the main event on Friday  the competition came down to the wire with 2-time winner Shannon Campbell nipping at the heels of eventual winners Randy and David Slawson. Out in the dried up lake bed of Johnson Valley, CA the once dry and dismal landscape is taken over this week each year as more than 50,000 people gather in Hammertown to watch and compete in one of the toughest off-road races in the world. What started as handful of hardcore 4wheelers racing for bragging rights out in the desert has grown into week long event, multiple classes of racers, and a year long prep for the big event. With all the advances in technology, corporate involvement, and multiple race classes, KOH continues to have a “run what you brung”  attitude that keeps it exciting for spectators and racers alike. Taking home the Super Stock Championship crown for 2012, Ben Wandahsega continues to impress racing at 3 Fires Off-Road Park and other events within the U.P. Mud Drag Association. The ’12 Silverado bodied, ’78 Blazer chassis is powered by a 410c.i. 730hp motor, ATD Turbo 400 tranny, and 205 Kodiac t-case. Built Dana 44/12-Bolt axles running 4.56 Motive Gears with Ten Factory chromoly shafts put the power to the ground and a set of 4” BDS leaf springs and Fox Racing shocks allow clearance for 38” Boggers to clear the Boatec fiberglass body. Over the weekend W.E.Rock held a Dirt Riot Endurance Race at Rocks & Valleys in Harrison, MI. Rocks & Valleys is one of our go to trails here in Michigan when we need to test out new suspension products or enjoy a weekend with family and friends. Ron and the crew over at R&V are constantly working to improve the trail systems and offer terrain to challenge wheelers of all levels. Course prerun and driver meet & greet went on Friday afternoon and rolled into a bon fire party that night. Some late night rain added a bit of mud to parts of the race course. Come Saturday morning the park started to fill with spectators, competitors and a handful of vendors getting ready for the racing competition. 3 classes ran during the day: 4400 class, trail mod, and UTV. If your looking for some great offroad racing action in Michigan head on out to Rocks & Valleys Off-Road Park in Harrison, MI for the Dirt Riot Endurance Racing. Prerunning and meet&greet is Friday, racing action starts Saturday 9:30am with multiple classes of short course racing. Unlimited 4x4s, UTVs and even stock classes will race throughout the day. BDS-sponsored off-road race team Desert Concepts is finished up the car and is making their way to Albequerque, New Mexico for the Ultra 4 Cinco De Baja Race this weekend. After a stellar 2nd place in class finish at the Mint 400 the team heads out for another weekend of extreme desert racing. Here’s some shots of the car over the past few days as the team preps the rig. We’ll have updates from the event as the #4454  takes on the competition in this Ultra 4 Western Regional Series race.
