Every July the Toyota 4×4 community has been meeting up for a 5 days of trail riding and camaraderie in the beautiful landscape of Ouray, Colorado for the National FJ Summit. This year marked the 10th annual event and FJ Summit X didn’t disappoint. Open to more than just FJ Cruisers, this event has Toyotas of all kinds and even a few lost Jeeps attend to join in the action.
Ouray is known for its breath taking views offering up some of the most scenic wheeling trails in the country. Now in its 10th year, FJ Summit brought in just shy of 400 Toyotas trucks and SUVs from all over the United States and Canada. Sponsors big and small flock to the tiny town of Ouray to get face to face with the enthusiasts, and to get out on the trails with them. The crew at BDS Suspension has had their eye on this event for years and finally had the time and a rig ready to hit trails. This year we brought out a bitchin’ 2011 FJ Cruiser sporting a prototype BDS system with FOX coilovers and rear shocks, ProRide coils and adjustable arms, 35″ Toyo M/Ts, Demello Offroad bumpers and more. Each day was filled with trail rides on notorious trails like Black Bear Pass and Imogene Pass which provided amazing photographic opportunities throughout the week. BDS was even able to help lead one of the many night runs thanks to our Baja Designs LEDs lighting the way. The vendor setup was filled with the latest and greatest off road goodies, trucks, and SUVs. Toyota even debuted the 2017 TRD Off Road 4Runner for the group to take a first look at.
Toyota’s debut was not the only special part of the FJ Summit. The event sponsored six amputee veterans to have the opportunity to come out and ride along on the trails. They also provide two scholarships each year to the local high school. The event ended on Saturday with the local Ouray fire department washing all of the attendee vehicles to raise money, and once the trucks were clean everyone piled in for the massive raffle with gear and swag provided by BDS and the other sponsors. A big thanks to the staff and volunteers for all their hard work putting this event together and to all our friends, old and new for 5 awesome days hitting the trails. We’ll see you on the trail again soon!
