BDS’s Carter and Dave are back with a final update on Project KJ, the company’s 2005 Jeep Liberty CRD getting prepped for the 2014 Ultimate Adventure (UA). With less than 2 days to go the BDS R&D crew has been busy working through the prep list. The new 40×13.50×17 Nitto Trail Grapplers were mounted up on a B.A.D. Eklipse 17 beadlocks, a spare tire carrier was fabbed up, master cutoff switch installed, Fox 2.0 hydraulic bumps installed, stiffer Pac Racing Springs installed on the tuned Fox 2.5 coilovers, redesigned motor mounts, the rock sliders finished being fabbed up, the front axle trussed, the interior reinstalled, and spare parts and tools were packed for the trip. Great job to the BDS R&D crew for their hard work in prepping the rig. Stay tuned as we hit the road Friday morning in route to this year’s UA and follow along as we post daily photos and video updates from the week. Tune in on BDS’s Facebook, Instagram,YouTube and Blog with #projectkj and #ua2014. 2014 Ultimate Adventure runs June 28 – July 5.

If I had a donor Kj, are you guys able to provide a basic “build plan” for me to take on a do-it-yourself project to mount an XJ drive-train underneath it based on the lessons learned form your build? Thanks.
Hey Glenn, Project KJ’s suspension wasn’t based on an XJ setup and unfortunately we have no plans to release a SAS kit for the KJs. That being said the XJ subframe could possibly be modified to work on a KJ, but it wouldn’t be anything we have information on doing with our KJ running a custom one-off suspension and JK axles. Awesome project guys ! Diesel also that’s even cooler so did you folks document how you enlarged the fenders im particularly interested in the rear near the doors was it trimmed to the door and then new metal welder in the inner fender ?
Thanks for checking it out. We have some photos from the all the work that went into reshaping the fenders in older build posts on our blog. A few places to check out:
