We’re in route to the 2015 Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, UT and as with any trip heading westward from our Coldwater, MI facilities it has become our standard stop I-80 in Des Moines, Iowa at Twin Peaks to grab some grub on the long haul. I think its safe to say the staff like the BDS F250….

Its down to the wire as the BDS R&D crew does final assembly on the BDS F250 before it hits the road in route to Moab, UT for Easter Jeep Safari. A fresh set of graphics were ordered for a 2-ton charcoal/white color scheme (available to fit your truck in the BDS vehicle wraps section). With the tight deadline approaching Highlander Graphics came in town to install the graphics in our adjacent photo studio while we prepped and painted the modified Fab Fours bumpers to match the theme, charcoal front and white rear. With the Warn M10000 winch and Vision X cannon lighting bolted down the bumpers were hoisted into place on the truck and everything was wired up. The Airlift airbags and Wireless One compressor system was installed using the BDS (prototype) air support system to allow additional towing support without limiting suspension travel. Amp Research power steps were installed to make cab access easier and an Extang revolution tonneau cover was added for extra dry storage in the bed. Final touches up front include a Royalty Core RC2 mesh grill insert that bolts into the factory shell once the OE center is trimmed out. To help keep the gears cool we swapped to a high capacity finned aluminum Nitro rear diff cover. Just a few more things to button up and this truck will be mobile. If you missed the announcement 2 weeks ago, BDS’s is in the process of building up the test mule 2012 Ford F250 Super Duty into a capable trail and tow rig. The build is underway as we prep it to take its maiden journey out to Moab, UT for Easter Jeep Safari next week. (Click here to read the announcement and build plans)

As with all builds there have been a few setbacks along the way, but we’re making progress an plan to have this truck ready to leave Friday afternoon for the 25hr haul from Michigan to Moab with the BDS show trailer and Project KJ in tow. Over the past 2 weeks we’ve finished up installing the suspension install opting for the preproduction BDS 6” Coilover Conversion 4-Link System (more on this system once it releases later this year). With all the towing and trail time we have planned for this truck we’re upgrading to a set of rear AirLift airbags and Wireless One compressor system with our custom mounts to allow for additional load support without limiting suspension articulation. We’re excited to get some trail and street field testing with the new 37×12.50×20 Mickey Thompson Deegan38 tires as we’re mounting them up on 20×10 BMF‘s new B.A.T.L. wheels. Our Fab Fours premium bumpers were sandblasted down to raw metal and the team made modifications to mount an assortment of Vision X LED lights from and rear. The bumpers are scheduled for paint tomorrow to be color matched to the vehicle with metallic gray up front match the 3M wrap getting installed and white in the rear to match the stock paint color. A Warn 12,000lb winch will be bolted in place for any heavy extraction needs in the future along with a set of Monster Hook swivel hooks for a stout recovery point. Also up front the stock grille is getting swapped out for a bad ass Royalty Core mess unit. Under the hood an Airaid intake was bolted in place of the stock unit as well as the Diamond Eye exhaust system.  Out back a Nitro rear diff cover will give us more protection and gear fluid capacity. Along with a spray-in liner, an Extang revolution tonneau cover will give us addition dry storage space and easy access. Up next the Bully Dog diesel GT tuner to wake up the stock 6.7L Power Stroke, paint, graphics, wiring and final assembly before we hit the road. BDS breaks ground on the latest project build. After nearly 2 years of faithful service Project Slate, our 2013 RAM 3500 is going up for sale soon and plans are being made to transform the company’s new Ford Super Duty into a bad ass promotional rig. Part work horse show hauler, part trail rig, this Super Duty will see its fair share of dirt, mud, rocks and ashpalt over the next couple years. This year alone its slated for the Fullsize Invasion Trail Ride in Moab during Easter Jeep Safari later this month, 4Wheel Jamborees, and other offroad shows across the country.

Initially we picked up this Super Duty last summer to use at the BDS tech center for new product development and testing. Along with field testing current production parts, this truck has quietly gone under the knife several times to develop and test numerous coil spring and coilover suspension configurations. All of us here at BDS Suspension are excited about these new suspension options coming soon for the ’05-15 F250/F350 trucks, but as per company policy we’re staying quiet until this Spring/Summer as kits begin to be released. (If you can’t wait until then, stay tuned to the F250 build updates over the next couple weeks and our first show of this season for sneak peeks as we head make Easter Jeep Safari March 29-April 4). Once built this truck will haul Project KJ and our show trailer across the country to Moab, Utah, the mecca of offroad for a week spent 4wheeling in the red rock trails and back country washouts for some high speed testing in both rigs.

We’re excited to have several companies onboard to help transform this truck into a work horse and true attention grabber. Along with the new BDS suspension featuring Fox coilovers, shocks and steering stabilizers this white F250 is running on a set of 20×10 B.A.T.L. death metals, the newest wheel from BMF Wheels. For bumpers we went with front and rear Fab Fours premium series bumpers with a Warn 12,000b recovery winch mounted up front to help extract us out of any trouble we or others get into out on the trail. Vision X LED lighting will illuminate the night with front mounted Cannon 6.7” lights, rock lights, and rear lighting. A Royalty Core mesh grille is planned to change up the front end. Monster Hook swivel hooks will give us stout recovery points on the front and rear bumpers. Out back a Nitro rear diff cover will give us more protection and gear fluid capacity. Along with a spray-in liner, an Extang revolution tonneau cover will give us addition dry storage space and easy access. With all our plans to regularly use this truck as a hauler we’ll be installing a set of AirLift rear airbags using a custom set of mounts to allow us to tow and flex without any issues.

Under the hood the stock 6.7L Power Stroke offers impressive performance and tow capacity, but with this truck running 37s towing through mountain passes we chose to unlock even more of its potential with a few upgrades. Up front an Airaid cold air intake helps improve airflow in while a Diamond Eye DPF-back exhaust system helps it breath better and keeps it 50-state emissions legal. The task of engine management is taken by Bully Dog with a Diesel GT tuner getting wired up on the piller for easy access on the fly.
