Extang is a name synonymous with quality truck accessories. Specializing in series of tonneau covers within the Truck Hero truck accessories family, they have been manufacturing bed covers for over 30 years. We, here at BDS Suspension, have been running Extang on our trucks for years and love the features of their removable tonneau covers when packing out rigs for shows and weekend outings.
When it came time to build a truck for the 2014 SEMA Show, the crew at Extang came up with a plan to overhaul a brand new 2015 Ford F150, which at the time was still months away from being released to the general public. Through a promotional agreement with Ford, they scored one of the first preproduction F150s to roll off the line and tore right into it for with paint, suspension, and accessories to turn it into the ultimate work truck. Starting off the truck was dropped off at Extang’s Michigan neighbor and yours truly, BDS Suspension. The engineers at BDS used the truck as the test mule to develop the new suspension lifts now offered for the new aluminum F150s before sending it back to Extang with a 4” performance coilover system featuring Fox 2.5 remote coilovers. From there, the truck went to the Washtenaw Community College where a team of enthusiastic automotive students stripped off the new OE paint for a fresh 2-tone paint scheme and bolt on several accessories to get it show ready. The exterior of this truck features a custom built aluminum hoop that houses (4) Rigid Q-Series LED lights for impressive lighting. A colormatched set of Bushwacker pocketstyle flares were added for body protection with the larger 285/60r20 Goodyear Duratrac tires mounted on 20×10 American Force Burnouts. A Rhino-Rack cab mounted roof rack was installed for additional storage of ladders and other job site equipment and the bed received a BedRug liner, DeeZee tool box and headache rack along with a Bed Slide storage tray system. Under the hood the stock 3.5L EcoBoost V6 is running an AirAid cold air intake, Hypertech programmer and Ford Racing stainless steel exhaust system.
The truck has been seen from cost-to-coast at events, in magazines and getting used as both show truck and daily driver for the Extang crew. Congrats to Extang on taking home first place in its class at the 2015 Autorama in Detroit. If you don’t know much about Extang, check them out. They’re an awesome company with great products for your truck. We’re looking forward to partnering with Extang on future builds!
