A few weeks back, the BDS Suspension backed Desert Concepts race team took on the prestigious Mint 400. Over the years the Mint has built a reputation for being one of the toughest desert races in the states bringing the top racers from around the country and beyond to compete. The Mint is more than a race, it’s an experience. In the days prior to event Fremont St. is taken over as offroad racing’s converge on Las Vegas. King of the Hammers 2012 is a wrap, and BDS Rep Jason Shellhaas made it back from the west coast with plenty of stories to tell… “Well another King of the Hammers (KOH) has come and gone, and with it, a new champion has been crowned. Congrats to Eric Miller on bringing home the crown this year. 2012 marked the 6th running of KOH out in the Johnson Valley SRVA, and BDS Suspension’s first trip out to the lakebed to witness the spectacle first hand. Over the years since its inception, this event has exploded in popularity as big budget builds and backyard creations compete head-to-head on a growling course of wide open desert racing and extreme rock crawling. The event that started just a few short years ago and took the off-road racing industry by storm is in full swing out in Johnson Valley, CA. Over the past week the desolate lakebed has been transformed into Hammertown as 50,000+ set up camp for this new class of endurance racing. King of the Hammers brings together high speed desert racing with extreme rock crawling as teams compete for the coveted crown and bragging right for the coming year. Competition is intense with a mix of corporately sponsored teams and professional driver’s out on the course. Over the past couple year there’s been a phenomenon that has taken off-road racing by storm. A mix of high speed desert racing and extreme rock crawling that tested man and machine in ways unlike ever before. 5 years after exploding onto the scene, the event that started it all, the King of the Hammers (KOH), is just 2 short weeks away.
