BDS Project SD126 Build Update 4
To catch up on Episode 1 / Episode 2 / Episode 3 of the Project SD126 Build, click the links. We’re back with another update on BDS’s Project SD126. With the shortened frame back from paint the team is getting started on reassembly. First step position the frame directly below the cab so it can be lowered down using the hoist after the powertrain is reinstalled. From there the cab is sent back up to give us room to slide the engine, transmission and transfer case assembly back onto the frame. Once motor and transmission mounts are tightened back down the cab is lowered into place, wires are reconnected and suspension is installed and this truck gets reassembled and ready for paint. To go along with the high-end race ready suspension going under this truck we’re upgrading 8-lug Dana60/Sterling axles from out F250 to 10-lug Dana60/M300 axles out of an…
BDS Project SD126 Build Update 3
To catch up on Episode 1 or Episode 2 of the Project SD126 Build, click the links. Checking back in on the build progress, the team is getting even deeper into this truck and starting off the week with even more tear down. While last week had the cab and bed removed in preparation to shorten the frame down for the short bed conversion, this week the 6.7L Powerstroke, TorqShift transmission and transfer case are coming out so the crew can do the frame surgery to shorten the frame down and add the suspension mounts and fully weld them in for a clean, factory look with extra strength and more offroad performance once completed. With the end goal to give this a factory-equipped, the frame cuts are going right along factory seams. Ultimately 16″ are getting cut out to convert over from SCLB to SCSB. Similarly the factory suspension mounts…

So picking off where we left off on the last build update, teardown is well underway as the team is dismantling this new Super Duty down to its core in preparation to start building it back up into a one-off custom standard cab, short bed (SCSB) 2017 Raptor Super Duty. With dozens of parts on order and several of them already arriving the build team gets the bed and body panels pulled, unbolt the seats and other interior components all with the goal to start mocking up new body panels fitment and measuring out the interior to start on fabrication. Underneath this truck the team is starting to develop several new suspension components for this Super Duty, some will find their way into production, others won’t. For panels, the light weight stock aluminum panels…
BDS Project SD126 Build Update 1
BDS has been keeping a secret these past few months. Granted we haven’t done a great job keeping the secret as we keep sneaking out teaser shots of the build progress on social media these past couple months, but its finally time to come clean on our scheme to overhaul a brand spankin’ new 2017 Ford Super Duty Diesel in preparation for the 2017 SEMA Show. This build is part of Ford’s project build program and will be on display in the Ford booth at the show next week out in Las Vegas. Dubbed Project SD126, this truck is outside of the norm these days as most builders opt for the typical crew cab, short bed configuration. Instead we’re going against the grain building a regular cab truck and turning it into something unique. What’s more the build team is converting this factory long bed over to a short bed…
