At this point we haven’t tested or developed kits for the air-ride equipped Ram 1500 so we can’t guarantee fitment of any parts. The suspension design is similar, however the front air struts and rear airbags cause an issue because our kits use replacement rear coils. The front air strut mounts into the OE location so likely our top mounted strut spacer will work and in the rear it would require a custom bracket to reposition the airbag mount (plus possible air-line extensions). We have heard of customers installing our kits on air-ride equipped trucks, but they removed the air-ride elements and went to our front Fox coilovers and rear coil springs (which would eliminate the air-ride all together).

Any update on options for the air suspension equipped Rams?

They are no longer allowing customers to delete the air ride from the Limiteds, so there is growing market demand.

I’m about to purchase a Limited and need to figure out how I can fit 35×12.50×20’s on it!

@Rich, no update as of yet. Unfortunately its not a vehicle we have been able to get our hands on. While it is an innovative option, production and availability is still dwarfed by the standard strut/coil equipped model Ram 1500s.

Designing new kits/products is a fairly quick process, unfortunately getting new parts into larger scale production is a bit more of a challenge. With our company’s goal to keep all current production parts on hand at any given time, new products oftentimes take a backseat to current parts until we have sufficient inventory to meet demand. Once the kits are available we will make an announcement

@Aaron, we have the prototype/testing completed, but the production parts are not available yet. SEMA has nothing to do with that equation as we don’t offer any specials on our products for SEMA and don’t base releases around the show. If we had it available now we could be selling it and making profit on the kits now. The reason it involves our company policy to guarantee current production parts in stock and have them available to ship same day. It’s a matter of maintaing stock on current production before adding new products. We don’t do small runs on parts as its not economical price wise for us or our customers. With dozens of products under development at any given time and limited resources to manufacture parts its not an overnight process. Once kits are available we’ll put out the release.

Hey Memo, we haven’t lost interest in lift kits for the air-ride equipped RAM 1500s, its just that we’re being asked duplicate questions concerning the kit and new product production is out of the my (marketing department’s) control. As I’ve mentioned in several of the comments above, our company policy is not to discuss new products under development until parts are on the shelf available for sale, which at this time kits aren’t available for the Air-Ride Ram 1500s. We do this to alleviate the issue you mentioned with other companies announcing new products and not being able to fulfill orders or give a timeline of actual release. Once kits are available for sale we will have more info on them and you will be able to order them 2 ways, online at bds-suspension.com or through your local BDS distributor either way they’ll ship out same day. In response to your other question, 2WD and 4WD Ram 1500s use an very different front suspension setup and all of our kits to date have been for the 4WDs.

    1. Carter @ BDS Suspension
Carter @ BDS Suspension at | | Reply

Hey Cody, I know you and many others are extremely eager to lift your late model air suspension equipped RAM 1500s. While we are in the final stages of development and long term testing with the lift kits, there are a number of factors that play into the development process that I’d like to take a moment to explain in a bit more depth. At any given time we have dozens of products in various stages of development, testing, and production for a wide range of vehicle platforms. As enthusiasts we want to develop suspension lifts for all vehicles, but as a business we have to make decisions that will be in the company’s best interest. For that reason we look at OEM production numbers, aftermarket interest, estimated price point, and other factors before even taking on new projects. We don’t release kits overnight and with a relatively new, untested OEM system like the factory air suspension we want to have our own long term test feedback. While we are constantly working on new products, there are a number of factors that play into the process of developing new kits and rather than releasing bits of information that can be seen by everyone including our competition, we choose to keep quiet on product development until we have kits on the shelf ready to be sold. This has come to be our policy and we do this for a few reasons. First, vehicle availability, models like the air ride equipped RAM 1500 are not the easily accessible so at times it takes weeks-months to source a truck willing to test a revised design or production sample. Secondly, priority. Being a business who oftentimes is first to market with new products lower priority products get pushed aside temporarily. This doesn’t mean we’re not interested in developing certain kits or like certain vehicles more than others, but we are a business and to that respect its smart business. While we have been approached by a fair amount of air-ride RAM owners looking to lift their trucks, that number is dwarfed by the number of traditional strut-coil equipped RAMs, F150, Silverado 1500, and other trucks in production. There are several other factors such as supplier lead-times and coordinating final production into our other inventory processes to maintain inventory levels as part of our “never out” policy, all of which can effect the amount of time it takes to develop, test, and release new products. I can appreciate you taking the time to contact other manufacturers, but in this case they don’t know anything about our development process and our experiences with the air-ride RAMs. As soon as the kits are released we’ll have more information available and reach out to everyone that has commented or shown interest. Until then I will confirm that kits are in the works and will be available for the air-ride equipped Ram 1500s.

How about a ‘group buy’ for all of us that have been waiting more or less patiently 🙂 for all these months/years?

All u guys might wanna check out bully’s performance they offer a lift option as its not full lift it does give u the option to lift from one to three inches. They are aluminium sensor arms that replace stock ones.

Lifting is accomplished by altering/adjusting the lengths of the Ride Height Sensors Arms. These kits are made from Billet Aluminum and are FULLY ADJUSTABLE so you can set your vehicle to be as high as you like (up to 3″). The Kits take between 30 minutes and 1 hour to install. The vehicle can be returned back to stock just as quick without any detection of being modified.

    How it works

On most vehicles there is a Ride Height Sensor on all four Control Arms. Some only have three, two in the front one for the rear (Rams have 4 and 1 on each corner). It pivots. One side is connected to the Frame and the other a Control Arm. To see what they look like on most vehicles is easy. Put the vehicle to the highest setting and look straight into the wheel well on top of the front tire. May need a flashlight. In the rear you have to look from underneath. They move with the suspension and tell the computer what height the vehicle should be sitting at.

These kit replaces the stock sensor arms to Billet Aluminum Fully Adjustable Links. When stretched or shrunken, depending on the application, they change the voltage coming from the sensor. That tricks the computer into thinking the vehicle is sitting higher then the factory setting therefore lowering it.

Hey Mark… keep us posted on how it works. I’m very curious as well.

  63. Carter @ BDS Suspension

One of the issues on the newer RAM 1500s (air suspension and non-air suspension) is the operating angle of the upper ball joint. Due to the suspension design from the suspension is limited by the factory upper control arms causing the ball joints to bind up and limit suspension droop travel. By raising the ride height without correcting the rest of the suspension geometry you limit the further limit suspension travel and cause premature wear of front end components like the ball joints and CV axles. For this reason we don’t offer leveling kits for the ’06-15 RAMs as we’ve found through testing a simple spacer isn’t sufficient to raise the ride height and maintain proper functionality of the suspension.

  64. Mark
    Mark at | | Reply

Carter that is a good point. I’ve read about these problems with some of the folks that have gone with a leveling kit. I’ll likely just use the links as an interim solution. So when is the BDS lift kit coming out again? LMAO

  65. AD
    AD at | | Reply

I agree with Carter too, however you can grab the Zone UCA to help avoid issues of the bind up. And Zone is a BDS sister company.
The above air link suspension is no different than running Bilsteins, Rancho’s or a leveling kit .
Running the Zone UCA kit for the Ram helps with running a leveling kit of some sort. Again, including the air link suspension mentioned above

  66. Mark
    Mark at | | Reply

If memory serves me correctly, the Zone UCA will not work on the air suspension models because the OEM UCA has a mounting point for the level arm. There would be no way of attaching the arm unless you welded a mounting point which I guess is possible but not something most of us are going to do in the garage at home.

The ride is a little rougher now but still good. I had the front aligned for the new height. I’m not sure if I will go with the BDS lift now or not. I’m still anxious to see the specs and the price but for now I’m happy and I ordered new wheels and tires. Just 33″ tires for now. Would go with 35″ if I go with the BDS lift someday.

Please add me to your list of hopeful Ram owner with the air ride system, I have a 2013 Ram 1500 4X4 Crew Cab and would like to purchase a kit that would at least level the truck at this point. I am in the process of adding a 3in body lift , but I rally want to get this truck level, but I do enjoy the ride of my truck with the air ride system.

Installing the arms was a piece of cake. I would venture to say anyone could do it. It took a little time to get the ride height correct but nothing was hard. I’m not sure if I can post a pic here or I would. Maybe I’ll get some on a forum and post a link on here in the near future. You could go with 34’s for sure. I wouldn’t try to go with 35’s though unless you have a true lift. 35’s with the BDS 4″ lift would be perfect.

I too have been waiting since last year to get my longhorn lifted. Figured it would be out as fast as every other new truck on the market. So many air ride equipped rams now, cant wait to get it lifted. Or will need to buy a 2500 and get lifted if it takes any longer. Please add me to the list as well.

Add me to the list with 2014 Air Ride on Limited 1500 4×4. I traded in my 2012 Ram 2500 Laramie Longhorn MC with Carli Pin-top 2.5, and feel like my rear is going to drag the ground in this truck. I’m way to close to the ground, and can’t go 39 MPH for ever.

I just bought a 2015 Ram 1500 Laramie Limited with the factory installed air ride suspension (They won’t let people delete it anymore). Do you have any lift kits for my truck available? Or can I remove the air suspension all together and install the 6” coil over kit? (don’t really care for the air ride anyways)

@Corbin, currently we don’t offer kits for the air-ride equipped trucks, but they are in the works to be released soon. We have heard of customers removing the air-suspension all together and converting back to a strut/coil setup without issue, I’d recommend discussing it with BDS tech support for more input if you plan to go that route, (517) 279-2135 or tech@bds-suspension.com

Hey Carter, I have a Laramie 1500 with 4 corner air suspension. I’m thinking about doing what you have discussed above. I’d rather wait for a “fix” but it seems like it just keeps getting delayed. I know you don’t have a crystal ball but do you think it will be out by the end of summer? If not, I’d rather get my air ride removed. But, I’d hate to do it now and hear that the new conversion is available a month later. If you could lay out your any guess of a time frame, that would really help my decision making. Thanks!

    Carter or another BDS tech,

I just had the BDS 6′ put on my 2015 RAM 1500 4×4 (non-air) with the Fox factory series up front and straight fox in the rear. Not to hijack the air suspension lift conversation but when turning right at speed like on a freeway off ramp the front left bounces so much that it makes the ABS kick in and it feels the tire is sliding from side to side like it’s going to twist and go under the truck. This is only happens when turning right or leaning on the left. Left turns are solid with little movement. Visually everything looks great. Truck is going back to the installation shop today. Can you direct me where to look for a problem? The lift has just over 1k miles on it and has already had the second alignment after settling. The movement is so bad on the left that I don’t feel comfortable turning the truck right faster than 20-30 mph and that’s with a totally flat surface.

Unfortunately I’m not able to offer up much assistance being on the marketing side of things, but can direct you to BDS tech support at (517) 279-2135 or tech@bds-suspension.com who will be able to assist you or the shop get to the bottom of what’s going on. The newer trucks are much more temperamental regarding alignment specs and how they are set up

Thanks. I was able to find the problem and it was an oversight by the shop that did the work. Easy fix. BDS has always been my lift of choice so glad this was just a simple mistake. Take care.

Hey, carter when are the 6 in kits coming out 4 inch is to small for the roads out here in Canada.

    1. Carter @ BDS Suspension
Carter @ BDS Suspension at | | Reply

@Colton, the crossmembers and steering knuckles used on our RAM 1500 kits (air and non-air) are designed to function properly between 4’’ and 6’’ of lift. The kit is designed as a base 4’’ to keep the suspension functioning within its designed parameters even while aired up to around 6’’ of lift. If taller air bag spacers were used the suspension would be able to be aired up too tall causing premature wear of certain components like upper ball joints, CV axles, etc. We found that 4’’ was the ideal height to function properly, ride well on road, and offer full adjustability of the air ride system. No plans for a base 6” kit for the air ride RAM 1500 trucks.

Why haven’t you guys made a 8 inch lift for newer ram 1500’s , I know u have them for the diesels I was just wondering is there anything that restricts u guys from making a 8 inch lift for gas jobs?

    1. Carter @ BDS Suspension
Carter @ BDS Suspension at | | Reply

Hey Branden, We appreciate your interest in BDS, but there are a number of difference between the RAM 1500s and RAM 2500s which is like comparing apples to oranges when it comes to lifting them. First off its not a gas vs diesel issue, the Ram 1500 if available with the Hemi and EcoDiesel that we offer kits for both. Same with the RAM 2500, we offer kits for RAM’s Hemi equipped 2500 as well as a Cummins diesel. Outside of the bodies being similar looking, underneath the 1500 vs 2500 chassis’ are very different. Along with the 2500 being much stouter, they use a different suspension design (IFS – 1500 versus solid axle – 2500/3500), larger axles on the 2500 able to handle the stress of larger tires plus a traditional steering box is used rather than the electronic rack-and-pinion steering that comes on the newer 1500 trucks. A solid axle truck is a much simpler design to build a lift for and correct the suspension geometry to function properly on and off-road. There are a number of limitations with lifting the IFS trucks such as the RAM 1500, the taller you go the more involved (time and expense) to correct the suspension geometry to function properly. Components like the steering rack are sensitive to changes. While it could be done, the cost of the kit to do it correctly would be much higher than that of a 6” kit. We feel the 6” is the tallest kit that works well on the RAM 1500 to improve its offroad performance while maintaining on-road drivability.

Outside of the physical limitations with lifting a RAM 1500 taller than 6” there are the legal and business sides of it. Legally (under the National Highway Traffic Safety Administrations FMVSS No.126) any newer vehicles under 10,000lbs must meet certain ESC system rollover testing requirements and any aftermarket modifications made must comply with those same standards. We have had our 6” kits certified to meet the requirements, however a taller kit would be more difficult to pass certification testing. While we would love to offer several sizes of lift kits for each and every applications, we are a business so we build kits for popular applications in popular sizes. Offering a kit that wouldn’t sell (be it aftermarket interest from customers or price point too high) wouldn’t help us to continue to grow to continue to offer new and innovative products in the future. I hope that helps answer your question, for more on the topic feel free to contact us at (517) 279-2135

a 3” body lift is a common upgrade for customers looking for more lift out of their RAM 1500s, beyond that fender cutouts and upgrade to a RAM 2500 🙂
