The 2019 Mint 400 was another successful event filled with spectators from all over the country, parades, and plenty of racing. One of the biggest thrills of the weekend was when Justin Lofton made history with his 3rd BFGoodrich Tires Mint 400 Victory. You can find out more on this historic moment here.
We were fortunate to have had a great location right on the corner of Fremont Street. Our sister company, RT Pro was able to join us at the event where we had some sweet rigs stationed at the booth that caught the eyes of those who passed by. We had the Polaris 170 for the kids, the Can-am X3RS for the adults, Project Ascension showing off one of our coilover conversion systems, our 2019 Ford Ranger SEMA build, known as #ProjectRangerX , and finally we partnered up with Napier Outdoors by allowing them to showcase one of their tents on the back of Project Ascension. This attention-drawing booth was a hit and we enjoyed getting the opportunity to talk to everyone that stopped by.
When we last left off BDS’s Project Ascension had just been finished up and BDS’s Nate gave a walk around of the truck in the studio before we loaded it up in the rain and headed West for the cross country road trip in route to Las Vegas forth 2016 SEMA Show. Packed full of displays, new products, and promotional materials this 2017 Ford Super Duty had a date with destiny where it was slated to debut in the BDS booth #30204 at SEMA. We hit the road Wednesday night to push through the night for the first leg of our 30hr haul out to Vegas. The truck road amazing despite all the gear loaded in the bed and backseat and the canvas top kept everything dry for the drive out. Along the way the crew made a few stops to see BDS dealers and show off the new company whip. Everyone that took a turn behind the wheel gave the seal of approval saying they loved the design and ride quality this new 6″ 4-link coilover system offered; we’re excited to get this kit out to market soon so others can see the BDS difference.
With us making good time on our way out we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to hit the trails in our favorite wheeling spot, good ‘ol Moab, UT. Over the years its become almost initiation for any of the BDS SEMA builds to hit the trail in Moab before getting debuted at SEMA. While we’re not tackling the toughest obstacles that Moab has to offer, Hell’s Revenge and 7-Mile Rim trails offer challenging terrain to test out this new truck’s capability. Even loaded down with the gear this truck performed flawlessly and the 38″ Nittos offered plenty of traction on the red rocks before we got back on the highway where they offered a smooth quiet ride for the last leg of the highway cruise out to Vegas.
We made it into Vegas Saturday late afternoon and got underway with setup for the 2016 SEMA Show with Project Ascension the buzz among everyone that stopped by the booth. Stay tuned the recap from SEMA 2016 and for more on how this build came together in just a few short weeks check out the build thread complete with writeups, build sheet, progress photos and videos at BDS Project Ascension – ’17 Ford Super Duty.
Along the way the crew posted several updates on Facebook and Instagram from the road and out on the trail, check them out at #projectascension. Stay tuned for more updates on this truck as it hits the trails and continues to be built up with new products to improve the trucks performance, capability and styling.
The guys at BDS felt the need to welcome Project Ascension to the family by running a trail ride through the scenic sights of Moab!
In true BDS fashion, the crew made a quick detour on the cross country road trip out to Vegas for the 2016 SEMA to welcome the newest project rig to the BDS family the only way we know how, by taking it wheeling. What better place than the picturesque terrain of Moab, UT?!
The team from BDS Suspension is getting down to the wire as they overhaul the 2017 Ford Super Duty for the 2016 SEMA Show. With less than 2 days they are working around the clock to install a slew of bolt on accessories, wire up electronics and fab several custom touches. Last week we updated you on the BDS 6″ Coilover 4-Link Suspension being installed along with 38″ Nitto Trails and 20″ XD Machetes, 3M brushed metallic wrap was getting installed, Bushwacker flares bolted on, Amp Research powersteps fitted and Since the last update the truck has taken shape looking a whole lot more like the original rendering that was drawn up for a go anywhere, adventure ready overlander featuring aluminum accessories and aluminum vinyl wrap to accent the new aluminum body.
This week the truck is getting reassembled with a ton of new products inside and out. Up front the truck received a one-off set of bumpers built by Fusion Bumpers. They team at Fusion is known for building a premium low profile bumper, made to order with whatever lighting and recovery needs you request. Typically their bumpers are build from high-strength steel, but for this project they built a set from light weight, high strength aluminum, TIG welded to perfection and ready to mount up a Warn Zeon 12S winch, Factor 55 ProLink XXL and 30″ Baja Designs S8 combo lightbar.
Inside the plain jane gray cloth seats are back from the upholstery shop now featuring Roadwire premium black leather with blue stitching. They even have the Project Ascension logo embroidered into the headrests. These seats are super comfortable and a much needed addition with all the miles this truck will see on the highway and off the beaten path. To help with navigation on future expeditions the truck is outfitted with the Magellan eXplorist TRX7 GPS. It has a 7″ touch screen, 2D/3D map modes, can track your trip and is preloaded with more than 82,000 ORV trails to help you navigate your way through like a seasoned trail guide. Also added to this truck is a sPOD modular 6-switch system. For anyone that has ever had to wire up a bunch of lights and accessories the sPOD unit is a must. The system can be mounted most anywhere in your truck and already includes the switches and relays to make wiring up accessories a breeze.
Out back the team is making progress on the custom roof rack system for extra storage. An aluminum basket is being fabbed up and installed about the Bestop canvas supertop and will mount up (5) Baja Designs XL-R LED spot lights as well as a rear facing RTL lightbar. In place of the stock bumper a light weight aluminum Fusion bumper was built to match the front that houses a pair of Baja Designs S2 lights. Additional accessories include a DECKED bed storage system and SlideZilla full width slide out tray for easy access and plenty of dry storage.
With the truck expected to hit the road tomorrow the crew has a long way to go to reassemble the truck and button up loose ends before we load up and hit the road for the 30hr drive out to Las Vegas to debut this truck at the 2016 SEMA Show. Check out the video and photos below and for more updates from the trip follow along on BDS’s Facebook and Instagram pages.
With SEMA deadline rapidly approaching the engineering team at BDS Suspension is hard at work to overhaul the new company test mule, a 2017 Ford F250 Super Duty to turn it into a head turning overloader ready for backcountry exploration or the local truck meet. This truck is slated to be in the BDS Booth (#30204) out in Las Vegas for the 2016 SEMA Show November 1-4. With 2000 miles to drive to the show, the crew its the road for Vegas the middle of next week to start the drive to Vegas in time to set up for the show and get the truck placed.
Last time we checked in on the progress the team had the truck back from being wrapped in 3M brushed metallic vinyl and were working on the new suspension design. At this point the suspension is complete, its a pre-production BDS 6″ 4-Link Conversion System w/ FOX 2.5 DSC Coilovers, dual FOX 2.0 steering stabilizer and RECOIL traction bars. The 4-link design will offer improved strength and better caster control, the FOX DSC coilovers offer a smooth ride over any terrain, improved dampening capabilities, and adjustable dampening settings for optimal performance.
Also under this way are several other mods to the truck. For additional dry storage in the bed a Bestop Supertop was installed in the bed. The sailcloth canvas top clamps to the bed rails and offers easy access to the bed from all sides with rollup tinted windows. Over top of the Supertop the team is fabricating a roof rack for additional storage space and mounting for the lights we’ll be installing. With bigger tires going on this build we added a set of Bushwacker extend-a-fender flares to give us extra tire coverage and a strong, beefy appearance. These come in a molded ABS plastic and wrapped in the brushed aluminum vinyl. Being that this truck will have extra altitude of 6″ of lift and 38s we added a set of the Amp Research Powersteps. We’re huge fans of these steps and run them on just about all of our promotional trucks. They’re easy to install and wire up off the OBD2 port to take cab access much easier and then automatically tuck up out of the way when the doors are closed.
For tires this build is going with 38×13.50×20 Nitto Trail Grapplers. We run these tires on several of our other rigs and have been very impressed with the look, the traction, how easy they are to balance and their 10-ply E road rated sidewall which will come in handy when we’re towing rigs and show trailers across the country. These Nittos are getting mounted up on a set of 20×10 (4.5″ BSing) XD Machete wheels in satin black. These wheels have a clean 6-dual spoke look with a simulated beadlock ring.
Final graphics are being installed with the BDS adventure edition vinyl graphics getting installed along with logos of all the companies with product on the truck. Next up, the team takes on the interior with Roadwire leather seats, Magellan navigation upgrades and wiring up the Baja Design lights. Next week the Fusion bumpers arrive and we’ll mount up the Warn winch, Factor 55 prolink and more. Now with 4 days left to go the team hassles to get this rig completed, loaded up with displays and ready to hit the road for Vegas. Stay tuned for updates…
We’ve had a lot inquiry from customers and follows asking about the full build plans for Project Ascension, our new 2017 Ford Super Duty diesel truck. Along with being used as the test mule for the new BDS suspension systems to fit the 2017 F250/F350 platform, this truck is getting overhauled in a matter of a few weeks to be debuted in the BDS booth at the 2016 SEMA Show in Las Vegas Nov.1-4, 2016.
